"People’s understanding of sustainability and the impact of their own behaviors on the environment are currently quite limited compared to what is needed to address social and environmental challenges.
Our data points to a significant gap between perceived impacts versus actual impacts: consumers view recycling as having the most positive impact on protecting the environment while actions that have much more impact – such as eating less meat or buying used items – tend to be seen as less impactful."

AMAZON DESTROYS UNSOLD PRODUCTS BY THE MILLIONS

TVs, laptops, household items, books and even face masks still sealed in their original packaging -- all like-new products that Amazon directs its warehouses to destroy rather than reuse or redistribute. One ex-employee says they were told their "target" was to destroy over 100,000 items every week.

The average EU citizen generated 4.8 tonnes of waste in 2020 - but only 38% of it was recycled. In some member states, more than 60% of household waste still goes to landfill.

As Europe aims for a fully circular economy, how are individual countries doing on waste management? How much waste is generated and recycled per inhabitant in Europe? And which European countries recycle the most?

Wen,
@Wen@mastodon.scot avatar

@yunod It is, in part, a simple matter of the lifetime of the animal. Chickens are slaughtered within 6 weeks of birth in some cases, Cattle much longer. It all stems from that - of course Cattle also use far far more water than other animals used for meat.

Is really viable for the small to medium-sized operator?

We assert, "NO!"

We did something simple. With a Mastodon tab open we hit Ctrl+Shift+E to get the Network Tab. With an inactive thread open in Mastodon, we went to another website to read an article.

An hour passes and what we discovered shocked us. Mastodon somehow justified sending us 55MB of data. The said 55MB over 1500 requests (53MB transferred).

@gabriel @witchescauldron

dsfgs,

What Mastodon is doing is , and an excoriating of internet resources and bandwidth.

We really did not expect this.

It's also socially irresponsible as smaller operators struggle to cope with M'don's demands. Our instance for example is being forced to shutdown due to being unable to handle the $40/month cost.

It means more . We're back at square one, because most users tolerated M'don bringing anti-features to .

Apple has unveiled an iPhone with USB-C charger in line with EU law.

Previous iPhone models had used Apple's own "Lightning" charger ports. In June 2022, the European Union passed a law requiring all devices to be compatible with a USB Type-C charging port by late 2024, arguing that it will reduce electronic waste and save money for consumers.
