I saw a post here (that I can't find) that kinda changed my life.

It said the best first step to changing the world into a better place is to just stop making fun of people or yourself. Ever. For anything. Including in your own thoughts that you may never speak aloud.

I try very hard to do this! it's such a stabler and nicer-feeling foundation to my thoughts and my life. It sheds a mental weight/burden I couldn't see before.

Such a great distilled bit of advice for a big concept!

Universal basic income mitigates tunneling, meaning that people are more able to think beyond just one focus. The need to earn survival income tends to function like blinders that block out everything else but your focus on basic needs. Until they're obtained, we can't think beyond.

I wish online stores advertised "slow shipping".

I do not need to instantly recieve my package, truly!

I would rather the order be accurate, workers not be rushed, and all of us agree on realistic expectations and sustainable practices so they become commonplace.

People do not need your extra 9 junk words telling them what they already know:

They already know information is found on websites.

They already know clicking a link usually results in going to a website.

They already know they can click links to find information.

Just put the link on "Thing" and be done with it!

It is a very convoluted and captilism-cursed system here in the US.

My government colleagues surprised me today when they said they had never looked into how recycling was run in other countries 🙈

So I'd like to know the ins and outs.

Help! What huge nocturnal worm could be living in my #isopod enclosure if I did not invite it there?

I got these isopods months and months ago from a distant acquaintance, and some springtails from a local rando.

I JUST saw this worm thing for the first time and it disappeared into the dirt when I turned on the lights. So I don't have a pic.

It was about the diameter of a pencil or a tad slimmer and pretty long with whitish/tan-ish and brown stripes/segments. Didn't get a better look.

I don't want to scare anyone but...

I spoke with an assistant professor who was developing a survey about an important environmental topic ...

and her focus was making the survey unbiased/completely anonymous, with emphasis on gathering feedback from underrepresented groups of people who feel left out of surveys like this...

and she had never heard of web accessibility or W3C in her life.

She didn't even know what a screen reader was.

Don't worry I rectified that situation! But jeez!

I've been thinking that we should share our failures more often, maybe just online here.

As a way to put vulnerability into practice, and show ourselves that we shouldn't idolize perfection, everyone makes mistakes, and we are more similar to each other than we think.

Maybe it could be a hashtag? We could congratulate each other on failing, and offer support! From little to big failures.

I told my partner that I would love if he asked me

"what excited you today?"
or
"what was exciting in your inner world today?"

or something like that each day.

He has been doing that and it makes me feel so seen!

One of the struggles in our relationship (and probably in many other relationships like mine) is that I live such a rich life IN MY HEAD and I'm not great at expressing it or even thinking that I should.

Mastodon is a practice in opening my mind faucet to the world!

Yesterday was my 1 year AuDHD anniversary!

1 year since the most life-changing realization ever. My resting heart rate dropped by ~10 points after I figured it out.

Knowing this about myself has given me so much peace & confidence. It's given me even more compassion for myself and others. I advocate for my needs now, and I have better boundaries.

Every day I marvel at how amazing we ND folks are, and how much we bring to the world.

I so appreciate this community!

Anyone have ideas for sending free text alerts to a group of like 300 employees?

We can't afford a service so right now we use email to text but it's very unreliable.

These alerts let us lil government employees in my department know when the air is very poor quality so we are allowed to telework instead of commute that day. It's for a good cause!

My mind has had a paradigm shift today.

I was watching a video by Youtuber NeurodiverJennt, and interviewing her kid she asks (I paraphrase from memory), "how does it feel to be autistic?"
Kid answers: Different.

And I sit here, thinking... That's why. That is why I am hated by most people, why most people fear me, boss me around, hate me, despise me, punish me... I'm different.

Sitting here with that thought, I find myself thinking, "most of the problems in my life, come from the outside"
