Does Proton for games on Linux work without using Steam? 🤔
I know vaguely of stuff like Lutris, so I'm still wondering how gaming on Linux looks if you're not completely bought into Valve's pseudo-monopoly. That should be in line with Linux thinking, right?
If it does, hell yeah. Then the other trick might be controller stuff outside of Steam, but one step at a time.
@gmr_leon Phew! Not suggesting that you specifically were, but there have been many times where Lutris + getting away from Steam tend to result in the "Thank Goodness for Tiny Underdog Epic".
Every once in a while I forget that Lutris supports more than just EA/UBI/Epic because of it. No harm meant!

A good opportunity to recap for those who missed all the drama about tool-assisted level uploads. 🎭
It's never good when anger at an unkind game takes over; Hyper Light Drifter is a frustrating game, I beat the boss of the Northern Area. I smartly put the controller down for the time being and will shift to something a bit kinder in nature. I can work through difficult puzzles with a calmer mindset. Instead of leading myself down a path of anger fueled blindness, I choose clarity.
@SirTapTap I haven't played any of those games. Also yeah, mockiwis didn't really feel like Pikmin enemies, at least not in the context of Hey! Pikmin. Maybe they would have worked in one of the Pikmin 3 tropical areas.
@jackemled it really wasn't bad for what it was, but it was a really bad look at the time. They sat on Pikmin 4 after claiming it was basically done for... Years.
It's out and it's great though so whatever I guess
When I was working on @makemagazine Volume 89 — our #retro issue — the topics of #chiptune, #tracker modules, and #VideoGame soundtracks kept coming up. This gave me an idea: what if we put together a #playlist to go along with the retro section, filled with our authors’ and my own favourite tracks? The results of this wacky idea can be enjoyed below… What are your favourite chiptune/tracker/VGM tracks or memories? 🤘💾🤘
Billions in profit. Billions. Spent years ravenously gobbling up game studios. And now they're chopping them down so they can keep .000001% more gain this fiscal year.
Fuck workers, art, games, players, the industry's future, basic decency. NUMBER GO UP FOREVER
I'm a latecomer to video games. They were sanity-saving when the plague hit and it was wisest to stay home. The potential and scope for interactive storytelling is amazing. What we mostly get instead, especially from the big corpos, is a bit saddening. It's the gaming industry that added phrases like "minimum viable product" to my vocabulary. bleeeeeeeh
Good on you for not streaming music. That industry is doing everything it can to starve all the artists to death.
@Emmadrime Unfortunately I didn't do this on a moral stance. I did it on a practical stance before the immorality of streaming services started to shine clearly: I don't trust tech firms to not delete everything unless I have a copy of my own.
I don't use cloud storage without local copies. Cloud storage is convenient, but companies deciding to shut it down is a risk, so I always have local. Same with streaming. Except I don't find streaming convenient because I hate interruptions in music.
What games are you going to play during this upcoming weekend? What are those games that make you watering your mouth, Homer style, while thinking about playing them in the next few days?
