As my spouse and I ran errands today, she wore a “Protect Trans Kids” t-shirt and I wore a “Trans Rights are Human Rights” ball cap. We catch people staring often, but today one cashier told us they loved our shirt and hat. While we ate lunch, someone came to our table, apologized for interrupting, and complimented our shirt and hat. Putting this out there for those overwhelmed by the ugliness and need a boost, that you have allies and advocates. Maybe more than you know.

Joyce Vance looks at what Alabama Republican senator Turbeville is doing, holding up more than 250 military promotions and, as of yesterday, causing the Marines to be without a Senate-confirmed commandant. Tuberville opposes the military's policy permitting enlistees to access reproductive health care of ouf state when necessary.

Republicans as a party supporting the military? Hardly, she concludes.

"That a Republican is undermining the military belies the party’s traditional claim to be stronger on military issues than the Democrats. So does the attack of House Republicans on our nation’s key law enforcement entities—the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation—after traditionally insisting their party works to defend 'law and order.'”

"This is not just Alabama. We previously showed that the racial turnout gap in #Georgia in 2022 was the largest it has been in over a decade."

10 Years After #SCOTUS Gutted #VotingRights Act, #Alabama Turnout Gap Is Worse

Shelby County v. Holder swung open the door for voter suppression laws in places with histories of discrimination, like Alabama.

Tomorrow is the next opinion release date from the Supreme Court and they could rule on Moore vs Harper at any time folks. If they side with us against just like they did when they overturned congressional maps then we are in a great position to say we defended democracy

No, #WashingtonPost, the Supreme Court did not say that #Alabama had to draw another district "favorable" to Black residents, as your headline wrongly claims. The word "favorable" doesn't occur a single time in the decision.
The word they used many times was "proportional", and the idea behind that word is that the districts need to be equitable to Black residents. EQUITABLE, not "favorable."
Shame on #WaPo for this bad headline.

If a foreigner attempts to sabotage the U.S. military, he is a terrorist. If an American tries to sabotage the U.S. military then he is a domestic terrorist. Tuberville, this failed coach, failed Alabamian, failed man who never served a day in uniform, is a domestic terrorist!

Pulpit Rock Sunset

The Pulpit Rock at Cheaha State Park provides one of the best views in Alabama. Cheaha is a Creek Indian word meaning high place, which is fitting being that Cheaha Mountain is highest point in AL.

Hell freezes over: The Supreme Court backs the landmark Voting Rights Law (1965) 5-4 and rules against Alabama's Republican drawn voting map which heavily favors Republicans and discriminates against Black voters. The maps will now be redrawn. John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh joined Sotomayor, Kagan and Kagan in the majority.

For those interested in a instance with a SE USA focus and lens:

What should we call it?
:blobcatthink:

I think the scope should be the whole Southeast, with Channels separated out for States and Cities. Then if anyone wants a more focused instance that's great, too. That's the beauty of Federation and decentralization!

In the meantime, important you share with me I'll gladly pass along

#ProLifeMyAss, Thomas.

Via Mark Joseph Stern:

Earlier #Alabama asked #SupremeCourt for emergency order to halt 11th Cir decision finding Joseph Smith intellectually disabled thus ineligible for death pen, https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/22/22A1111/269466/20230620165757851_2023.06.20%20--%20J.Smith%20SCOTUS%20Stay%20Application%20338pm%20FINAL.pdf

👉 #ClarenceThomas just denied it—a mere 4 hrs later.👈

To be clear, means Thomas let 11th Cir decision IN FAVOR OF Smith stand, he will be resentenced. Altho AL will come back w cert petition asking ct to overrule precedents limiting execu of intellec disabled ppl
