Retrospective from a month with the 11 Ultra:

I'm now officially a fan of the Zenfone. It hits a certain sweet spot for me between the headphone jack, UI, camera, and battery life. It's the direction should have gone.

I don't like the larger size more than the size of the 9/10, but it is roughly the same size of my previous Samsung Galaxy Plus, so I can definitely live with it.

Meetings lasted from 12pm to nearly 3pm today with only about a 15 minute break between the two.

We internally showed some demos of some awesome things that are coming to @novalauncher in the future.

These are things that have been in the works for quite some time and I can't wait for everyone to see them, use them and talk more about them!

Yup. Digging that Bay Blue on the Pixel 8A.
Looks like we have a decent mid-ranger for North America. A LOT of the perks of owning the nicer Pixel 8, but at a lower price and the compromises don't seem extreme.
Should be a great daily communicator device.

A question for Android users…

I've been using Tusky for quite a while now, and I wonder if the official Mastodon app has become better than Tusky in the mean time.

In case there's a new superstar Mastodon app for Android, that'd also be interesting to know. 🙂

Thanks in advance.

The OneTracker app for Android is just… gone??

https://onetracker.app/

Luckily the web based version still works, but I can’t install the app on my phone so I can’t get push notifications anymore. 😞

I really liked how simple and straightforward the app was, and how it wasn’t trying to up-sell anything besides its core competency of tracking and notifying about packages.

I came across this article the other day, titled “Why Rust cannot replace C++”.

I feel that the author completely fails to understand the opposing argument. The article claims that with “new” C++ features like smart pointers, you can write safe code in C++, therefore Rust is unnecessary.

But I don’t want a language where I can write safe code, I want a language where I must write safe code.

@hds I think the context of your code is very important: if it's client-facing or if it parses untrusted data, then C and C++ are really dangerous languages. This has been widely reported: https://www.whitehouse.gov/oncd/briefing-room/2024/02/26/memory-safety-fact-sheet/ This is why #Android is investing so much into #Rust: a phone is a high-value target these days.

I liked the keynote by Lars at @Rustnationuk where he focused on how Rust can make teams more productive: https://youtu.be/QrrH2lcl9ew

Everything I've looked at either has a cost or features I don't want. Is there a decent app for ?

Bought a new phone to install Sailfish OS on it.

It comes with Android 14.

It's baffling to me that most people are willing to suffer all the craptitude that runs by default on Android. I had to skip and disable at least a dozen services and apps immediately after the first run setup. It's gross and I don't like it.
