To celebrate the release of the Lucasfilm's Habitat beta footage coming soon, here's some screenshots of stuff that haven't been seen for 36 years.
These were on the end of the tape containing in-game newspapers and weren't part of the original transfer.
Here you see QLink explaining that they were closing Habitat down and thanking everyone. New info here is that they claimed it'd only be closed for a month. It was a year!
The Habitat tapes have been transferred and currently sit at about 56gb each for both 2 hours tapes. I'll be uploading the raw files + encodes to the Internet Archive soon.
To cover the cost of shipping from the taper and back though, I need $20. I wouldn't normally ask but things are tight right now.
If anyone can help with that, here is my PayPal link. I'll be deleting this post as soon as it's covered.
Big test for the App Store: if someone submits an Apple II emulator. Apple has been quoted as saying the apps must be for emulating “retro console games” only. And yet:
That would be a stupid arbitrary distinction – and tricky in the 1980s. What is an Atari 400? A console or a home micro?
A (sadly dreadful) C64 emulator is already on the App Store, and no-one would refer to the C64 as a console.
Thought: I also wonder what happens if someone submits Retroarch or FBNeo?
Looking like a "home micro" that could educate your kid in programming (and, indeed, I learned some basic programming on that machine!) was nice to convince parents to buy that thing.
But then, the MS BASIC included with it couldn't do anything better than e.g. a PET. All the great hardware was unsupported. And a design of e.g. a GFX chip running in sync with the CPU, offering rasterline interrupts, offering flexible tiled gfx modes and hardware scrolling, spending a lot of silicon on "sprites", etc ... that's pretty much a "video game console design".
I have started my IT career with a #commodore#C64, so maybe I have an advantage now? 🤔 Having deep hands-on knowledge of C64, the Basic, it's 6502, it's SID & VIC, having at least killed 2 of them AND having know-how in #quantumcomputing at same time should give a headstart for #headhunter and #freelancing. my career will take off now. 🚀🚀🚀
#Doom auf einem #C64 - zu sehen morgen im #hnf bei der #DoReCo .
Natürlich schafft die CPU ddas nicht allein - das macht ein #raspberrypi - aber der VIC gibt die Grafik und der SID den Sound aus!
I have #c64 floppy disk here that appears to be empty to #greaseweazle
Maybe the flux has degraded. Is there any way to get gw to try harder to decode something? Any other tricks?
If I told you how much time I spent adjusting this so all the emulators + retroTerm fit right in borderless windows in the 800x600 box on the :commodore: monitor background you’d understand why I never get anything done 😅
This thing is actually my home server (Plex , Frigate, NAS etc but these MiniPCs have too much untapped power to just sit there doing nothing, so I hooked it up to the TV for some nerdy nostalgia in addition to a huge terminal.
🎙 Im Finale unserer achten Podcast-Staffel besprechen wir „Murder on the Mississippi“ (C64, NES). Packt die Notizbücher ein und klärt mit uns den Mordfall auf! Jetzt anhören – Link in der Bio!
I'm currently finishing "The Heart of Salamanderland" for the Amstrad CPC, that will have a physical release by PolyPlay (see my Brick Rick for an example!).
This time we talk about the modern #retrogames Extreme Volleyball Infernal League (#sms@raphnet ), Spediteur (#c64 ) and Rocket Panda (#megadrive ). Enjoy!
