A coworker is out with Covid. I worked with her last week while she was sneezing & had a runny nose. But I had my N95 on, & was also airing the house out so I did not get sick.
(Always air out your vacation rental for at least an hour, folks)
Biden allowed Covid to turn into a mass disabling event:
"when President Joe Biden ended all pandemic emergency measures last year, the lights were turned off, the premises were vacated, and the last four-plus years were effectively chalked up to a bad dream."
It’s the kids birthday this week, it’s almost June and we’re all sick again. The kid’s had the “cough at night that doesn’t go away” for weeks and my throat and lungs hurt as they haven’t in a long time. Tests are negative for days and fuck I hate kindergarten sometimes. We haven’t changed a lot of our behaviors but the amount of kids hacking away at his school the past few weeks is sad frankly #ottawa#kids#covid
Not everybody becomes chronically ill from a disabling pathogen.
Live till you die is the goal, not suffer till you die.
You may not care if #Covid kills you, but will you care if you are so ill from #LongCovid, making food to survive takes every ounce of your energy for that day? Will you care then?
Because that's what way too many people are living right now.
Do you have somebody lined up who will take care of you indefinitely?
I had to go to urgent care earlier today (nothing serious, needed antibiotics for infection).
I'm please to report that the nurse, the doctor, and all the patients I saw (about 8-9?) were wearing masks of some kind. I was pleasantly surprised! 😷😁
I've said it before but I'll say it again.
It's not that everyone I know who had #Covid has developed terrible new medical issues.
It's that everyone I know who has developed terrible new medical issues recently had Covid.
And in every case I'm thinking of, it's become a health crisis within about three months of their most Covid bout. (Usually not a bad bout, either.)
A reminder: epidemics and pandemics are expected to increase in frequency as the climate crisis advances [1] and as humans build deeper into wildlands [2].
So what do we do?
Address the climate crisis!
Embrace urbanism, controlled growth, and leave wildlands alone.
Push for infrastructure improvements for indoor air quality.
Push for better healthcare and sick leave policies.
Advocate for better funding for scientific research.
Chatted with a pharmacist this week about #covid boosters and they can only give them to folks over 65 and immunocompromised… unsure what kind of documentation that requires but province won’t pay for anything other… all the while movie industry folks I follow on social media show that everyone (actors don’t but everyone around them do) on movie sets still have to mask or they lose insurance coverage. So curious why #ottawa#cdnpoli#onpoli
Who was hit hardest by #covid-19? Possibly immigrants in unprotected essential jobs. Osbaldo Varilla-Aguilar and others still face lingering, sometimes extreme symptoms. #sf#longcovid
To those who follow this account for #Covid rants and politely tolerate my posts about the wonderful and elegant #Python programming language I’ve used almost daily for over a decade: The #pycon2024 conference required masks because they apparently haven’t stopped caring about the people behind the keyboards.
Yes, masks. In 2024. At a tech conference. It’s a beautiful thing.
