"extreme anti-trans hate content remains widespread across instagram, facebook, and threads. characterized by fear-mongering, lies, conspiracy theories, dehumanizing tropes, and violent rhetoric, these posts — many by high-follower accounts — aim to boost engagement, generate revenue, and seed hateful narratives about trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people. these accounts profit from such hate, and so does meta and its shareholders"
fedipact signatures are vetted and added manually whenever i feel up to it, give me time lmao
messaging me on my main account and asking me to add you IS NOT A SIGNATURE. i will do my best to bookmark it and try to remember, but i will probably forget. PLEASE use the cryptpad form unless you are literally unable to. i try to keep fedipact stuff separated from my regular account because it stresses me out lol
It's a reminder that VPNs have their own risks, beyond technical ones if operated incompetently -- namely, that you have to trust the VPN company itself.
UPDATED to reflect which users were being spied on.
So Meta/Threads/some people are claiming that any mention of #PixelFed being muted was a bug.
And I don't doubt that software made by corporations is buggy, I've had my fair of experiences with Microsoft, Google, Apple, and other big name websites and services to understand it's often spaghetti on fire.
But it's just odd that the bug only impacted:
A known competitor to Facebook/Meta
Did not impact other posts of a similar nature
Only impacted a service that doesn't happen to have the funds for a legal team
Only was patched after public notice
And while Halon's Razor says "Never attribute malice what can be explained with incompetence", looking at the history of Embrace, Extend, Extinguish from the biggest tech companies, I think that razor has gotten rusty.
After careful consideration (and hearing a few nice friends of mine joined Threads), I’ve decided it wasn’t worth it to empower Meta, and I’ve signed the Fedipact. Sorry, friends. Join Mastodon for real. :fedi: :mastodon: :antifa:
you'd think me posting a selfie with #FediPact written across my tits and boosting/linking it on the official account would generate some level of discourse, but not a single person on here has called me a whore about it yet surprisingly lol
On any online space, you should consider who you give power to. Who has the control over who you choose to associate with? Power doesn't corrupt. It reveals.
People in real life do choose to avoid dangerous or toxic places.
All that the instances who sign the fedipact are doing is signalling to some of us that somewhere is safe for folk who don't want to engage with Facebook at all.
This is a Freedom of Association issue, not a Freedom of Speech issue.
Also, when I created this account I thought I'd be posting about software, but I mainly post about autism, so a more autistic centered instance is probably better for me.
I'm on the search for a well run #Instance that is #Meta / #Threads free. I have #Mastofriends in #Europe particularly so any instances there that are safe (and that would HAVE me) would be cool. But in any case, I'm after a new safe home where I'm sure the "blocked_domains.csv" will take effect, and that can tolerate an idle fucker who posts a lot of pictures (with Alt Txt, naturally).

A lot of people in the #Fediverse are saying that Threads joining is a form of "Embrace, extend, extinguish" and IMO I don't think that's the case.
There's no need for Meta to kill this network or absorb it.
ActivityPub by design favors big servers like Meta's, it also not being nomadic (like BlueSky cough) means that users can't easily jump ship from a server they don't like.
I already see the #FediPact posts discussing leaving notable servers like Mastodon.social and it's silly IMO.
By design this whole network was built on shaky ground and when discussion of any Bluesky style improvements came up most users flipped out.
We'll be here again and again until those improvements come, if they ever come.
Reality is Meta knows they're king already and they don't need the regular users on the Fediverse.
IMO they want the WordPress profiles.
They want the illusion of freedom for celebrities and corporations.
honestly it warms my heart and makes me really happy to see large swaths of the fediverse coming together to defend our communities against the evil megacorporation known as meta
if this is the pre-threads fedi's last hurrah... it's been an honor to spend so many years cultivating this beautiful community with y'all
The only reason the algorithmic biases of the Zuckerberg entity are not dominating fedi discourse at this very moment is because they began to federate with "sharing" opt-in. If/when they switch that toggle over, 160 million accounts governed by these censorship algorithms will flood in and algorithmic creep could quickly destroy the journalistic prospect of the fediverse. Why would journalists show up here if less than 1% of the network can see their posts?
Ah, is that time again for unsolicited opinions about #threads and #Meta let's gooo. Spoiler alert: If you like corporate social media, you are not going to like this thread🧵
#Fedipact is so easy to understand that even a male cis westerner like me can get it: A coalition of servers want the #Meta shit machine as far from their gardens as possible. Because they built those gardens with suffering and lots of love.
do you enjoy the work i've done with FediPact? the rad instance i've set up? the cool clothes i DIY together? my pirate radio station, vantaradio? my awesome videos? my amazing selfies? my posting generally? or just wanna give a trans gal a nice gift?
well i'm unemployed, job searching, was recently kicked out of the place i'd been staying for years, and am surviving solely off donations for the moment so if you wanna support me anything helps
(to support cyberpunk.lol costs directly please use the separate instance kofi on our about page)
