Welp, it just happened. #Zuck became the most followed person in the #Fediverse with a follower count of more than 4 times that of @Mastodon itself
Of course, those are only rough numbers. Most of the people following him are on Threads, and many do not even know anything about decentralized social platforms (or care). People outside of Threads that are following him are few (including myself, now*).
But this is more of a symbolic thing. Once other profiles enable the Fediverse integration, we'll be seeing more and more Threads profiles topping the charts. Or maybe not, who knows. I already start to see many profiles on Threads that stopped posting since quite a while, and I'm wondering if they're still active. Many people on other centralized platforms just call Threads dead already, lol.
OTOH, even the overall atmosphere on Threads just seems to be... subpar to say the least. I really don't feel I could learn anything from the people out there, apart from a few dozen interesting profiles that are simply just hard to find - they were hard to find on Insta, they are hard to find there as well. If, for whatever reason, Threads were to simply turn the federation off abruptly, I wouldn't feel anything of value would be lost apart from these profiles, at least for me. I wonder how long it will take until it will be just another enshittified, ad-ridden, useless platform, just like the other two in #Meta's portfolio are, all filled with trolls, bots, scammers and propaganda accounts of the Kremlin-backed modern far-right that spread the lies and nonsense.
If you have a presence on Mastodon, yet you'd also love to try out Threads, you're not missing anything. Really. This place is just way better, and it centers not around advertisers, but around you.
*you traitor, how dare you follow the Satan over this place? well, I actually thought it out for a bit. And I don't know if I'll keep the follow on the long term either. But this is just part of my way to #quitfacebook, as funny as it may seem. It is just one of the many active accounts/pages that I still follow on that cesspit, so I thought, why not.
I also have a habit of checking my profile from various servers, and I'm having a hard time seeing even my popular posts. So I can say #Friendica keeps me quite protected from the aforementioned. Plus that Meta doesn't have any ads to serve me around this place.
Mike Macgirvin, the long-time developer that brought us #Friendica, #Hubzilla, #Streams, and the #Zot protocol, is bringing his most powerful concept to the rest of the #Fediverse: Nomadic Identity.
I'm then and now experiencing a strange behaviour in Friendica web (frio): Having a post with a longer thread below, I expand the thread and interact (like, reshare) with some messages in there. If I do that, more than just once a few moments after that interaction the display somehow seems to "scroll" or "jump" or reposition, not sure by which pattern, in some cases the comment I interacted with being scrolled to back or bottom, in some cases scrolling up or down the thread. Seems to happen on all browsers I tested so far, and somehow feels related to clicking, say, a "like" thumb and the background activity triggered by that being finished. Am I the only one to see that? Anyone else? This isn't really a big deal but a bit annoying as you again and again lose track of where you were.
@z428 It happens to me a lot, & tbh it's pretty exasperating. Because of it i frequently lose my reading place in my network timeline, & need to manually scroll up & down to "rediscover" where i was. This does not happen in my Masto* account.
I have a [non-technical, entirely guessed] hypothesis. I suspect that "interacting" with the subject post somehow "triggers" #Friendica to then check for new items in the fediverse, to insert at the top of my timeline, which then abruptly displaces my "reading point" down by the number & size of new posts added.
If true, i would mention this; Mastodon allows users to avoid this unpleasant inconvenience, by an optional #SlowMode setting in Preferences. When enabled [which many Masto users do, afaik], new toots are prevented from automatically entering the top of the timeline & displacing it down, instead generating a small notification atop the timeline noting the availability of new content. Then, at a time chosen by the user, they can manually click that actionable notice, which loads the new content. I really wish we had this in Friendica!
Not every fediverse user want to connect to Bluesky but for those that do, you can look into using Friendica. The next release will allow you to use your Bluesky account from within Friendica. Interact with Mastodon / Msskey / Pixelfed etc and Bluesky users together on one platform
Anyone out there using Friendica with mobile #Firefox on #Android? Tried it again for a while this weekend but eventually gave up (again) because, in the web UI on my device, Friendica / frio became almost unusable while trying to "@" - mention some user. Either loading or displaying suggestions / completions seems incredibly slow here. Is this just me? Any other experiences?
I guess this topic has been covered 1000 times before, but I can't seem to find a way to "search and find" the older threads on this forum. So I apologise for returning to a familiar topic.
I installed #friendica on my home micro-server on #Yunohost and after an upgrade it worked perfectly for a few weeks, but lately it has started to frequently show the "504 Gateway Time-out" error page and I wonder if this could be due to some configuration of my node or some other reason.
As a background, at the moment, the server has only one active user, with almost 2.000 contacts.

How does Sharkey compare to Mastodon?
To those who have used both which do you prefer overall?...
