Anyone can recommend a good Mail client for iOS and macOS? I really love to use Mail.app but I would like to try out new things.

My top wishes for are

: New system settings’ design with an adjustable window size!

: Multi user support!

: Background downloads!

: New App switcher that comes up from the bottom via double swipe.
Lossless audio support.

What are yours? 🙂

While implementing the package previews, I ran across one state that Cork didn't have covered yet: when an app is already installed outside of Homebrew, and you try to install the Homebrew version.

Instead of getting stuck, you now get this status.

Today, I merged the basic support for Shortcuts into mainline Cork. After that, I decided to take on another challenge

I thought it would be cool to be able to see detailed info about a package before you install it. This feature actually used to be in Cork back in 2022! But I had to remove it… until now!

It's far from complete, but I'm doing my best

Very old package preview from 2022

Je cherche une appli desktop (si y'a une synchro avec le mobile, c'est un +) pour stocker mes favoris.

Un truc à la mais plus simpliste. Un bureau quoi.

Vous avez ça en stock ?

Some POS update to #macOS Sonoma I applied yesterday now alters sound output volume to 70% by itself without me doing anything.

It's always the same: new software -- new bugs.

I've used for my day-to-day work for a good 35yrs. I've had a couple of brief clusters of years where I had to use a Windows at work (but still had MacOS at home).

I've installed on many old machines to extend their lives a bit, sorting through distros, finding one that would work on limited resources with good results. Fun stuff.

But I'm curious to ask a QUESTION about new computer purchases…

Looking for help from and / or Apple Mac people.

I have before me an old MacBook Pro running 10.13.6. It can't be upgraded because of hardware constraints.

No browser on this device will render the schedule here: https://www.emfcamp.org/schedule/2024

I see JS console errors like "TypeError: Object.groupBy is not a function"

I've tried , , and .

Is it possible a script on that page relies on an OS feature this machine lacks?

Why is it so hard to have my Mac mini consistently appear on Finder via ? Half the time the computer isn’t visible, and there’s no amount of flushcache or killing mDNSResponder or Finder that brings it back. I wait many minutes with my Finder open and…it spontaneously comes back? WTF?

So flaky.

Update on Cork Shortcuts support:

I have added a shortcut for refreshing packages. Next step, I'll see if I can add a separate button to Cork itself for only refreshing packages without updating them!

(also, does anyone know why Shortcuts is showing the key for each LocalizedStringResource instead of the actual string? 🤔 see pic #2 for code)

To recap what I got working today in Cork (but I'm not promising that it's gonna be in the next release!):

  • Added three Shortcuts: Get installed Formulae, Casks or all Packages
  • "Get installed Formulae" allows you go only limit it to only manually installed packages. For some reason, doing this in the "Get installed Packages" crashes it even though it's the same system

We'll see what's gonna be next!
