If you’re on mastodon.social, I would highly recommend that you switch to a different server that protects its people instead of exposing them to a well-known bad actor like Facebook/Meta via Threads.
And remember that Mastodon is not the fediverse. The fediverse is much more than just Mastodon and definitely more so than mastodon.social and Mastodon gGmbH.
It seems there's even some delay on my powerful instance, but only for some minutes or so. I'm deducing this based on the notification flood. Or then the issues are all round, not sure which way. Even #MastodonSocial struggling? #Eurovision causes quite a heavy server load. #MastoAdmin#Servers#Instances#MastodonInstance#SysAdmin
Mastodon.social rolling out the red carpet for Threads is like an independent shop inviting a supermarket to set up next door.
But what’s done is done. And I’ve wasted enough words on this whole sorry affair over the last year.
So this is the last you’ll hear about it from me. When, eventually, you’re writing your “what went wrong?” articles, feel free to look up what I’d written on the issue back when.
People on mastodon.social, are you seeing the multicolumn ("advanced") interface by default, even if you didn't activate it?
Have had a couple of reports now of this happening, has mastodon.social made it the default by accident?
It used to be the default years ago, but since then the simpler single column interface was made the default. Multicolumn shouldn't be appearing by default.
So, here I have a new follower from #MastodonSocial named IncestMilfs.
They joined two days ago and are posting content that is pornographic under German law and now it is on my instance and my instance (which I am responsible for) makes it accessible to minors.
To be safer I have to at least silence mastodon.social if not defederate.
Two days. Mastodon.Social has no idea what they are doing anymore. #mastoadmin
Can anyone recommend a small-to-medium #instance that hasn't permanently limited federation with mastodon.social and journa.host? I'm gay and based in Aotearoa, but mainly I'm interested in conversations about the big issues of our age, such as #ClimateJustice, #decolonisation, and #intersectionality, as well as staying abreast of the news (both global and local). I find the long-term blocks on #MastodonSocial and #JournaHost are limiting my ability to navigate threads and discover interesting perspectives and analysis.
I discovered an account that had NSFW content that is not even CW’d from #mastodonsocial show up on one of the hashtags.
This is why I advise users to migrate away from Mastodon Social to a smaller or medium sized instance that has sufficient moderation. They don't have enough moderation at Mastodon Social and still allow open registrations.
Is newsie.social blocking or limiting mastodon.social, or the other way around?
Again, all the news outlets I was following on newsie.social were unfollowed without any interaction or notification. This is really frustrating.
I hope no-one minds but I'm testing out #Calckey & have randomly followed a couple of people so I can figure out how to use that place. It's so confusing & overwhelming. I've no idea what I'm doing.
Just ignore me over there.
But #MastodonSocial is so broken w the new change it's unusable for me now. I have to migrate somewhere & have no idea where to go.
Can someone please ask the CEO of Mastodon gGmbH to defederate with Threads? I used to know Eugen who ran the instance and could have asked him myself but I don’t know the CEO of Mastodon gGmbH.
