In Zimbabwe, "people grow the cereal grain sorghum and pearl millet, crops that are drought resistant and offer a chance at harvests, but even they failed to withstand the conditions this year.
With this year’s harvest a write-off, millions in #Zimbabwe, southern #Malawi, #Mozambique and #Madagascar won’t be able to feed themselves well into 2025."

This is the Maputo-Katembe bridge in Mozambique, the longest suspension bridge on the African continent at 3 041 meters long, replacing the Matadi Bridge, completed in 1983 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for this distinction. It's also longer than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco (2 737 meters long).
It connects the Mozambican capital Maputo, on the northern bank, with its disjunct suburb of Katembe on the southern bank. The Maputo-Katembe bridge has completely redefined the city skyline and is now an emblem of Maputo.
Before the bridge was built, travelling between Maputo and Katembe could be done by taking a 40-60min trip across the Maputo Bay on the limited and ageing ferry services available. The other option was to drive around the bay, a journey that took at least 3 hours due to the very poor condition of the roads. The bridge has significantly reduced travel time between Maputo and Katembe. 🌍
