"The sheer number of people waiting over 18 weeks for vital heart care shocks and saddens me – it would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. Without urgent intervention, such long waits on this extreme scale will continue to put people at unacceptable risk of death or disability for years to come.”
Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan, consultant cardiologist and associate medical director at the British Heart Foundation

And you're not going to fail Wes?
Going to shoehorn in more Private Healthcare while destroying the NHS, aren't you?
Think Queer kids don't know their own minds as well, don't you Wes, even though you're Queer yourself.
Maybe don't go to a Pride Wes, we don't want you there.

This man betrays his own kind for politics, think the NHS is safe with him?

@AnnPettifor warns that Wes Streeting (and Labour)'s plans are a clear & present danger for the NHS:

  1. Any privatisation of all/part os the NHS will be costly to both users & the state;

  2. it will have negative health outcomes;

  3. the ripple effects of the expansion of debts by private equity to accomplish such expansion of privatised healthcare are themselves destabilising.

Streeting is masking his real intent by claiming 'pragmatism'!

A 70 year old fried collapsed and died in the toiet of his private room - on an NHS ward his life would probably have been saved. The only time my partner used his work-provided BUPA, he had a tonsillectomy from a dodgy practitioner, developed bleeding and was told to take a taxi back to the Lewisham practice. I decided we should go to A&E at nearby Charing Cross. He haemorrhaged in the room there. Would have died in the taxi. https://weownit.org.uk/act-now/end-private-healthcare-deaths-invest-nhs#cs=d5c349708a2763b5cf3283cddfe14d73_1712648897_336~cid=630902

@davidpnice even back in the eighties my friend was studying to be a surgeon, now a Professor of Radiology.

When I asked about private hospitals he told me he'd never use one for an operation because the risks from complications were much higher. Because if anything goes wrong they can't handle it and have to get you to an hospital.

I never forgotten that and things are much worse now IMO. Profit kills, maims and abuses and are fools to consider using it.

Why when the NHS is in crisis does the 'solution' seem to be increased private healthcare, but when the railways hit crisis point, it was finally the state that had to step in...

The solution to constrained funding is not to introduce more suppliers who by their very market character need to make a surplus out of any available funding....

And yes, in Wes' terms... if saying that makes me a middle-class Leftie - then so be it!

And so it ends.... NHS consultants have voted to accept an improved pay offer (which is more generous than before to consultants of less than seven years seniority)....

No doubt, Victoria Atkins hopes this will draw support away from the continuing dispute with the Junior Doctors.

However, this still looks like fiddling while Rome burns as regards the more general malaise in the NHS

Again, this should not need to be reiterated, BUT...

This is NOT the fault of the or its wonderful staff.

it is ENTIRELY the fault of the government who are trying to run it into the ground so that YOU get mad with the NHS and allow them to sell it off so you end up with a US-like healthcare system. You REALLY do not want that, believe me (from experience).

So here’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. I live in the UK, where (as you may know) our National Health Service, the , is under severe strain. I believe a lot of that strain is intentional – designed to fracture the system so that it’s easy to privatize – but some of it is organic, and however it arises, it’s a real thing. With the need for access to care increasingly desperate, what I wonder is why people with healthcare skills are not setting up free clinics.

NHS A&E waiting lists costs lives.... the Tories have been unwilling to really act to reduce waiting times for emergency treatment (through the continued process of defunding)... and so one must conclude Tory NHS policies are clearly killing people.

Of course this is not news, but perhaps a little more starkly obvious when the link between waiting lists, unnecessary fatalities & funding cuts is put simply?
