I learned more about GPT-based AI algorithms from this article than from literally everything else I've read about it so far combined. It implements a GPT algorithm using #PostgreSQL.
Coucou mastodon #jechercheunjob d’administrateur de bases de données (aka Dba) #postgresql ou #oracle sur #Toulouse ou full remote.
Pas d’urgence, mais une envie de changer pour une structure à taille plus humaine.

DBA a life in the shadows
Database administration is weird. The job is a strange combination of theory and practice, strictness and loose rules mixed together in a magic blend.
The DBA is probably one of the most obscure and one of the less appreciated roles within the IT organisations.
I always liked being on the same Postgres team as @AndresFreundTec because he was smart + hard-working + hypercompetent.
But with his xz backdoor discovery Andres has taken things to a whole new level. Hence this NYT Kevin Roose story and the whole breadbaking & yeast analogy 🤯 for Andres's stubbornly persistent investigation, driven by a "That's weird" feeling....
Right now @l_avrot & @karenhjex are on stage at #pgconfeu demonstrating creativity on steroids (!!!!) to shine a light on the challenges women face navigating a male-dominated tech world, including in Postgres… The talk is “Trying to be Barbie in Ken's Mojo Dojo Casa House” & I applaud Lætitia’s & Karen’s courage in giving this talk #Barbie#PostgreSQL#database#diversity#womenintech
I can't express how excited I am for the upcoming Django 5 GeneratedField 😍 (and database defaults)
In my very data-heavy project (calculating and reporting on resource usage rates for utilities) this will be a game-changer, simplifying some things that can be troublesome or tricky ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
A good dozen or so times this week as I've been working on features or cleaning up old code, I've thought "a GeneratedField would be amazing right here!"
This is the best pic I have of the late Simon Riggs who passed away yesterday 26 Mar 2024. 💔 Simon's far-reaching influence in the Postgres world changed the course of so many lives. I took this photo when Simon was giving his Postgres keynote at #PGConfEU 2023 last December in Prague. RIP Simon, you will be missed by so many people, whose hearts are broken right now 💔
A tip for fellow #MastoAdmin : During the update I ran into a bug with the latest pgbouncer image (1.20.1), it would overwrite the userlist.txt causing pgbouncer being unable to login and thus Mastodon to fail.
If you use #pgbouncer , make sure to specify version 1.20.0 for now. See https://github.com/bitnami/containers/issues/48264
After reading a massive tome about #ElasticSearch earlier this week I realised it was complete overkill and just used the full-text capabilities of #PostgreSQL instead.
Currently PieFed has 46,000 posts and results are fast. It'll be interesting to see how well it copes when there are more posts. Anyone want to make a guess when it'll bog down?
Here is my toot resume in case anyone has open positions:
Experience: staff software engineer, #backend#webdeveloper, #python, #django, #postgresql, #terraform, #redis, #rabbitmq, #kubernetes, #aws, #gcp
I get things done and worked with pretty much any tech out there. I learn fast, have no problem coding in other languages. I have experience leading teams. I helped growing an engineering team from 10 to 150 engineers. I know how to scale things. My code is resilient and has tests. #fedihire
A mentor, colleague, friend, and extraordinary person. I am heartbroken and beyond words at the passing of Simon Riggs. My deepest condolences to his closest and loved ones.
Hello #R or #Postgresql specialists. I have a few hundred views in a database schema, that I need to transform in a pdf (with ajusted size of the table since the number of rows and columns is highly variable). #knitR seems to be the relevant tool but I do not really know how to use it efficiently, I'm taking any advice !
This weekend, I hacked together a markdown documentation generator for Postgres in Go. It should be extensible to other databases, as well as including other properties from database.
Hello folks. My good friend @vyruss , co-author of our #PostgreSQL 16 Administration Cookbook, convinced Packt to set a 20% discount in the US. You can get the book here: https://packt.link/Isgcd
and use code: 20JIMMY for the discount. We hope this is useful.
