Jack Posobiec at CPAC: “Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely. We didn’t get all the way there on Jan. 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it.”
@BlackAzizAnansi We’ve been informed and warned. Too many Americans are too stupid (as in uneducated and selfish) and full of hate to realize what they are supporting. We’re in BIG trouble. We MUST defeat them. #SaveDemocracy#stopracism#stopfascism
-Obama and Seth Myers roasted Donald Trump at 2011 White House correspondents' dinner
-Trump explored running for the 2012 Republican nomination in 2011. He made his first appearance at CPAC that year.
-Trump spent all of 2012 and the years up to 2015 spreading lies about Barack Obama's citizenship on Fox News. He also openly endorsed Vladimir Putin as the kind of leader that America needed. Freshman Senator Ted Cruz jumped happily into that bandwagon, as did Mike Huckabee, among many others who regularly appear(ed) on Fox News to this day. Oddly, internet search engines seem to have buried this info. You can still find mention of Mitt Romney condemning Putin in 2012, and be being laughed at by Obama.
-Trump had the headmaster of his childhood military school hide his academic records while demanding Barack Obama release his in 2011.
What we are experiencing now has been rehearsed for decades. Those points about Trump aren't even the first time he's practiced this shit. He has been compromised for a long time, and his sycophants are just as compromised.
By refusing to tax corporations, and refusing to raise the cap on income that is taxable for Social Security, the republicans are purposefully trying to bankrupt the US.
Corporate taxes should be at least as much as individual income taxes, if not moreso.
And there is absolutely no excuse for cutting social safety net programs when corporations clearly are not paying anywhere near their fair share of taxes. Not even close.

The rich and connected billionaires and huge corporations rely heavily on the stability of #democracy and the rule of law for the wealth they have acquired. Now they need to pay for it.
I just voted in Virginia. I am hardly able to hold myself together contemplating a possible GOP trifecta and all the red state policies that would follow. I am hoping Virginians turnout today for democracy. #ElectionDay#virginia#SaveDemocracy
Friends of #Ukraine, if you’re not following @timkmak, you should be. He and his crew do outstanding reporting on the war. And now he’s in #Taiwan for the election there. Hugely important with ramifications affecting our entire world. #SaveDemocracy #SlavaUkraïni#HeroyamSlava
If the far-right Ohio GOP's amendment passes in August, a 40% minority of voters will be able to block any amendment the majority wants. That's un-democratic and un-American.
🚨Vote NO August 8th!🚨
Let's get the vote out: by mail or at early voting. #GOTV
"This can’t go on. If #Sunak really wants to know why the country feels as if it’s falling apart, it’s because we haven’t got a functioning #government. All that he did get right was “enough is enough”. It is. Time for an #election.

Probably the most important thing you will read this week...or this month...or until the election. I've given the link from archive so all can read.
"President Biden is the first president in 80 years to consequentially raise taxes on both rich people and corporations. That political bravery has brought him powerful enemies: this fall’s election will be hard fought."
@Savvyhomestead The main problem is that Russia (and others) are doing the EXACT SAME SHIT again as they did in 2016, and their targets are too young to have experienced that. In 2016 most of them were playing games on Xbox.
We (the older generation) have to explain to them that they're right at the core but that they're also the target of concerted efforts to sway them away from Biden.
Since musk has deleted your account on xitter (minutes after you vowed to continue your husband's work) I'd like to extend an invitation for you to join Mastodon.
This is likely to be an unpopular opinion, but please hear me out. The US is under assault from within by Christian Dominionists aka Christian Nationalists. These people are not Christians. They are a performative death cult driven by a patriarchal, fascist worldview. We all know that, and we can all agree on that. Okay, here comes the unpopular opinion.
The only way to fight Christian Nationalism is through learning what Christianity is and what it isn't. That means studying The Bible, talking to Christians who are horrified by what is happening and bringing them in as allies, becoming members of organizations that fight to keep Church and State (Surprise! There are tons of religious people who belong to these organizations because they see the danger of Christian Nationalism), and countering Christian Nationalists' talking points with Scripture they claim to hold so dear.

I hope you all will have an open mind on this, and give it try. As Sun Tzu said in the Art of War: “If you know the enemy and you know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles."
I don't always agree with Robert Reich, but today's newsletter struck a chord with me. He makes some excellent suggestions on what to do rather than just seethe with rage or fall into apathy. This year's election is crucial for us all. We need to recognize this and act accordingly.
Don't waste time trying to convert or understand hardened GOP cult members. They are a minority of voters. It's far more important to make sure everyone else doesn't sit this one out and votes responsibly. Our democracy is in our hands.
It was a week of intricate legal maneuvers with potential huge political consequences. A great group of legal & political commentators - George Conway, Al Franken, and Melissa Murray - join Harry to break it all down, including Mark Meadows' high-risk testimony in support of moving his state charges to federal court & Judge Tanya Chutkan’s selection of a trial date in March 2024. The group goes on to discuss Rudy Giuliani’s continued self-destruction & the latest grotesque episodes of rampage shootings.
