A few days ago I got a stellar Windows 11 update, it broke at least OneDrive, Google Chrome, Typora, and VSCode. I had to reinstall each program manually. What is odd is that OneDrive is bundled with Windows 11, so I had to get the Windows 10 OneDrive and install it on top of it. The mouse cursor also changed to a stock. Now I wonder what else will I discover is broken. Good job there kicking out that QA team by Microsoft.

Windows 11: Dev Drive Within Storage Spaces

Let me give you a quick walkthrough to make use of Dev Drive within Storage Spaces on Windows 11. Because Microsoft's own docs fail at it.

Microsoft is really making sure people don't want to use Windows anymore for work... 😞

  • Windows slowing down randomly and especially if there are pending updates
  • Applications keep randomly crashing due to some error in MSCTF.dll
  • Keyboard input turns into garbage in various applications (Emoji search, WhatsApp, ...), you can keep hitting the same key and get different characters written

I see one of my biggest gripes about is still there in the latest update. You still can't show all icons in the system tray from personalization > taskbar like you can in Windows 10 and earlier.

Heads up, if you are on 22H2 or newer you may want to pause updates for 5 weeks as there will likely be lots of new features dropping for everyone with the security update scheduled for November 14, and at least on keyboards without an applications key, pressing shift+f10 in File Explorer more often than not refuses to bring up the context menu, unless you (literally, no joke) aggressively spam the keys. I have no idea whether Xplorer2 is impacted but if it invokes the native menu, it very well may. This could be a disastrous update for the mainstream too. If you want to pause updates, head to Settings>Windows Update and press alt+down arrow to expand the menu, then up arrow once to pause for 5 weeks and hit enter.

Microsoft's Windows 11 Copilot feature, introduced in the "Moment 4" update, has faced mixed reviews and reports of issues. Users have reported problems with custom tuning profiles for AMD graphics cards being wiped clean after each reboot and compatibility issues with software like Wallpaper Engine from Steam. Additionally, Microsoft has started displaying third-party advertisements via Copilot, raising privacy and user experience concerns. Users who encounter issues with Copilot may consider removing it, but this might not be an option for those in the EU due to a new DMA policy.
