One more #EGA background (almost) done for my point-and-click adventure game, with some rudimentary waterfall animation.
Take a guess where this takes place...
The Monkey Island games were my introduction to point-and-click adventures and will always have a special place in my heart. From the start, 'Return to Monkey Island' gives the exact same vibe. It feels both like playing another chapter in the Monkey Island series, and at the same time the new aspects make it feel better tailored for modern point-and-click gaming. Personally, I find the art style just beautiful too. Hits right in the nostalgia.
in celebration of space quest ii's 36th anniversary (november 14, 1987) i've recorded two of mark crowe's finest animated EGA/16-color backgrounds from the game in 1080p :)
I did a #topsters chart for the #AdventureGames I've played in the last 20 years at different times and with different levels of enjoyment. #TheLongestJourney was my favorite, hands down. #BrokenSword was my go-to for mystery/art. #Agon Lost Sword of Toledo was good for the story and southern European setting, I Have no Mouth was the most shocking, #Sanitarium was a mindfuck and the others, classic and new, I'd recommend anyway. #Gaming#Videogames#PCgaming#Playstation3
The Space Quest III remake by #Turbochimp is out now! It's a complete remake of the whole game from start to finish in 3D complete with voice acting. I did the music with my Error 47 mate Jon Paul Sapsford and we wrote about 1½ hours of new music for it (as well as reorchestrating and remixing the music from the original game).
I'll get a full soundtrack download up later today. For now, PLAY THE GAME... IT'S FREE!
Oh snap, a slice of nostalgia launched on Steam today. Submachine was a series of Flash point-and-click adventure games. Submachine: Legacy remasters the series, updating art, adding some new content, and combining it all into one package.
I rarely buy games at launch, but I'm awful tempted. I'm glad to see things like this or the Cube Escape Collection coming out to keep these classic Flash games available.
One limitation of #LucasArts#adventuregames on FM Towns: apparently the cursor sprite can't overlap the left edge of the screen, as it can in the DOS versions.
I wonder if this was a factor in #LOOM EGA changing the in-game cursor from a crosshair to a pointer. Though it could just be a coincidence, of course.
I took a stab at recreating some of the early Edison sprites seen in @danielalbu 's Gary Winnick interview. They're a lot shorter than the versions in the published game, and look a lot less squashed when they're seen with aspect ratio correction (image 3).
You can also see the shorter early sprite for Wendy in a piece of WIP art Ron Gilbert posted on his blog a number of years ago.

not all compositions and palettes in The Dig work equally well.
this stitched-together composite of an ultra-wide room, where the derelict spacecraft sits, reveals less successful background art.
note the jagged edges between the ship's outline and the mountainous background. the mountains in the far background evidence the same problems with aliasing.
Wanted to talk about some of my favourite indie games that really inspired or impacted me through my years of gaming (still do), and I never see ppl talk about -
Dominique Pamplemousse - It's all Over When The Fat Lady Sings
Off-beat comedy, handmade, unique art-style, society commentary, musical, gender exploration - I backed Squinky on IndieGoGo when this first was announced and I still love and replay this regularly.
It's the kind of unique view and creativity I desperately want to see more of, and love experiencing. One day I'd too hope to leave the world with something like this
There's also a sequel and another exploratory game by Squinky that's worth playing too, and only 1$ https://squinky.itch.io/
After all these years I'm finally checking out Alice: Madness Returns! It has a few bugs but it runs well enough for an older game. The graphics have aged pretty well! It also runs nicely on Steam Deck! The only downside is the lack of cloud save support.
Multiple friend streams that might interest people here! Both oddly have to do with the 90s despite neither being made in the 90s.
My friend Matt is finishing the final part of The Big Con (Be Gay, Do Crimes, set in the 90s but made in 2023): https://www.twitch.tv/mattyf
And my friend Jess is playing Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (Lucasarts Adventure Game, set in the 90s, but made in 1988): https://www.twitch.tv/decafjedi
Przygodówkowe wieści w kolejnym przeglądzie na blogu. W tym odcinku wspominam między innymi o nowej wersji Amerzone i o pixel artowym Midnight Scenes: A Safe Place.
I recently stumbled across this beautiful adventure game "Lucy Dreaming" by @tallstorygames ... and I'm hooked!
It just feels like "coming home". An old school point and click game (in a very positive sense) with lots of clever ideas and many references to the "good old times" of adventure gaming.
There's so much love and humour in this game that I can highly recommend it to any old-school P&C fan.
