While the year runs on its last legs, it’s time to celebrate another fantastic Blender year – made possible by the community of contributors at blender.org.
Here is the list of top committers to the Blender project in 2023!
Let's put a limelight on people who made Blender possible last year.
Is anyone else out there having issues with Blender becoming crashy during simple vertex editing?
The file I'm working on right now has started crashing a LOT whenever I'm extruding vertices... and I'm talking about extruding one vertex on a model that has about 1,000 faces and only mirror and subdiv modifiers turned on.
My confidence to continue working on this project is wavering, knowing that it might crash any time I make a change. 😖
#Blender evening project: a point cloud galaxy generator in #GeometryNodes. This is around 1.5 million points total, rendered in under a minute.
The key to getting the different colors and opacities was to layer different "galaxies" together, each with a different material applied. @gleb you might enjoy this.
#Blender 4.01 is out and I'm thinking I could probably do with a bit of a refresher, so went looking for the latest tutorials.
The latest tutorials on the blender.org is for Blender 2.7!! :florshed: #b3d
Edit: I meant 2.8!! ☺️

With every new version of (100% free open-source) 3D software Blender, Andrew Price - a.k.a. Blender Guru - does another 100% free Donut Tutorial series - aimed at total beginners.
Blender 4.0 is out.
Donut Tutorial Series 4.0 also now exists - a (free) 10-part tutorial (and growing?)
I'm stepping through - I always learn something from these. After 5/10 my summary so far is this is a good (if wide ranging) intro. He also has a Discord link for if/when people get stuck.
Highly Recommended. 🍩 Attaching a cheesy animation I made a few years ago with my v.2 donut for inspiration😅
#GeometryNodes has an Index Switch node now. It allows choosing between an arbitrary number of inputs with an index. This was implemented by @hansgoudey. #b3d#devfund
Here's the first animation I've done with this scene... not very complicated, but I wanted to show off the depth of the scene and the materials with a little motion.
I have another video coming up soon that has a lot more going on!
the Trump baby blimp approaches the camera, over a reflective plane - with Macho Man playing. A DOOM-style Plasma rifle is raised, and the music is now Motley Crue "Shout at the Devil". A steady stream of brussel sprout orbs pop the blimp, which then catches fire as it falls to the ground. made in #b3d
