Just seen another person with a cochlear implant at the indie cinema and it's about bloody time 😀 I've been working my ass off trying to increase awareness that the cinema do a load of subtitled showings.
When I add #captions to my photos in the #apple#iPhone gallery (subtitle), you automatically pick them up when I post them on #Mastodon and I love that. 😍
Just been blown away by how good Narrator and Live Captions are on Windows and it makes me even angrier that they aren’t just building an OS but an ad-and-AI infested surveillance nightmare. Mainly because it shows, yet again, what we could achieve in technology if everything wasn’t tied to a toxic business model and a suicidal system of perpetual growth with finite resources.
This should also shame the Linux folks (not volunteers, multi-billion/trillion-dollar corporations who profit from it).
If you want Live Captions on Linux, check out https://github.com/abb128/LiveCaptions – you can also find it on Flathub and it works splendidly and, unlike the Windows version, it automatically saves a transcript. This is perfect for making your live streams and videos more accessible. And it’s free and open source.
I survived the void,
I came back with groceries, medicine, and actually had had fun!🍫
Trying some experimentally creative #writing#captions to see what #disability &#actuallyautistic who are marginalized, plagued by imposter syndrome, masking for survival, code switching, frame switching perspective, juggling the elements of nature and self or selves around.
I would love information about adding automatic#transcription or #captions to short videos that I can then edit to make sure they're correct.
Context: I want to be able to send a #video with fast and sometimes unclear audio speech to a #Deaf friend, but I have #disabled hands and don't have it in me to type it all out. If I can find a way to do it automatically with some corrections, I can handle that.
#Apple uses an undocumented private format for geotags and descriptions in video files, and as their "Photos.app" can only read these, but not the standard data formats, NeoFinder now writes these as well.
It's been v instructive trying to include #alttext in online html created in Rmd. The actual code is very easy (include fig.alt = 'y', as well as fig.cap = 'x' in code chunk), but I wanted to check if it worked, & that meant using Voiceover - the reader that comes with the Mac. This guide was v helpful: https://dequeuniversity.com/tips/learn-voiceover.
I recommend that other sighted authors try this as it can affect how you organise material.
Also, punctuation becomes more important. #accessibility#figures#captions
Golem.de - ARD will KI für Live-Untertitel verwenden
'Subtitle' is an open-source AI-powered caption generation project that utilizes machine learning algorithms and natural language processing techniques to generate accurate and natural-sounding captions for videos in various languages.
The tool can run on your own server for enhanced control and privacy and utilizes the open-source #Whisper ASR model for high-quality speech recognition.
R to @echo_pbreyer: 🇬🇧 Huge success in the defence of digital #privacyofcorrespondence: The vote on the dangerous EU #ChatControl#CSAM scanning proposal is postponed again in the Council because there is no majority. Our tireless fight is paying off!
> "Without the commitment and resistance of countless individuals and organizations in Europe, the EU governments would have decided tomorrow in favour of totalitarian indiscriminate chat control, buried the digital privacy of correspondence and secure encryption."
"“You all need to know that America is not sending their best and brightest to Washington, D.C.,” he quipped. “Sometimes you can’t believe that these people are making the decisions that determine the government here. It’s actually scary.”"
Sen. Fetterman (D, Pa) appearing on Late Show w Stephen Colbert
2/ As he continues to recover from the stroke he endured last year, Fetterman said he now uses a device to provide captions for him to help process information—technology he also brought with him on Late Show.
“I never thought about captioning before I had the stroke,” Fetterman said, “and now I realize I have to be an advocate for anyone with a disability to have the kind of technology that allows them to fully participate in society.”
My children cannot or will not watch TV wo #captions.
I was meaning to write a section in a report on how some crowdsourced improvements to GLAM files, uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, are hard to detect and re-use by the institution.
FYI lack of image #captions for #a11y is likely hampering spread of your important messages. Simply provide them clicking 'Edit' on the uploaded image preview.
Or, if you are using a #Xitter to Fediverse bridge, consider installing a #Fediverse to Xitter bridge.
In this case:
"Stock photo. Someone frantically posting messages from their keyboard"
A man with long hair and beard talking into a camera inside his home, a tiktok video with tiktok watermark and username (@pearlmania500) on the side, and slightly "misunderstood" captions (curse words replaced by words that don't trigger moderation).
@SallyStrange@mzedp honestly? I get that’s it’s funny for hearing folks, but for D/deaf/Hard of Hearing folks who rely on captions, substituting different words for profanity is infantalizing and also confusing.
Fello hearing folks: If you're using something to auto-generate captions or a transcript, YOU NEED TO COPY EDIT IT.
Kudos to you for working on accessibility, but do not assume that automation is infallible. It's quite error-prone.
It can be even more frustrating to experience the relief of thinking you've found captions only to find they're mostly useless to you because they're full of garbage. It's like getting catfished. Please edit!
