I am SO sick of joining #Discord Servers for everything and anything.
I do NOT want to join your server of 400+ people I do not know and have no desire to talk to because you wouldn't link me your GitHub or site directly or put necessary information in your README for a thing I just want to download and use.
Please, for the love of Celestia STOP doing this. IF your server gets deleted, that information is GONE. If Discord shuts down, that information is GONE. If someone doesn't want to join a 400+ person chat room, they're SCREWED. PLEASE STOP.
You people know that there are limits to the number of servers people can JOIN right?!
Sweet Luna's Moon! Seriously, just make an RSS Feed..! Put up an info page on GitHub Pages, it's FREE.
I miss forums you could browse without an account :fluttersad:
#Followerpower. Die Überarbeitung der Messenger-Matrix ist nun vollständig abgeschlossen. Über einen Tipp/Klick auf Teilen würde ich mich riesig freuen, damit sich die Messenger-Übersicht (weiter) verbreitet. ❤️ 👍
One thing the #Fediverse is missing is a #Groups functionality. Public groups, private groups.
So many people have told me: "I can't leave Facebook because my [knitting/school/yoga/…] group only uses #Facebook to communicate. Sub-#Reddits are groups. #Discord are groups. Group chat on #WhatsApp or #FacebookMessenger. We need groups on the Fediverse!
Well, good news: people are working on them! And it's apparently fucking difficult. But they are making progress!
Miałem ostatnio konwersację ze znajomymi odnośnie lepszego komunikatora grupowego w zespole IT. I pojawił się odwieczny problem:
Slack vs Discord
So if your community uses a commercial platform for free, like #Discord, do you have a plan for if that platform enshittifies? Because it seems inevitable.
For a long while, platforms have been making tons of usually pointless, often harmful changes to their UI. Reddit & Discord provide tons of examples....
I know this'll be shitty to complain about but seriously.. Why do people still make #Discord servers when they can use other open solutions like #Matrix or #Revolt? :blobcatglare:
We are supporting yet another big greedy #corporation collecting #data on us, we should be promoting open protocols or services that don't do such a thing
Does anyone use #Discord on Desktop with screen reader? The UI seems extremely cluttered. Even just moving focus away from the area where you type message to the area that lists messages seems unreliable. Sometimes I'm just trapped in the last message, I can't press up to read previous messages. I can use VO cursor or virtual cursor to read the messages, but there are so many elements to skip over even just one message! I'm sure I can figure out some workarounds, but do I want it that bad? lol
What do people get out of using #SMS#Slack or #Discord that @matrix (and apps that interface with it) doesn't provide? The decentralized web should be able to win this fight.
Also, I wonder how many people are happy with #IRC and maybe then aren't interested in (or even aware of) what's now possible. I love using #matrix for calls on my show.
The Discord bridge to/from Matrix is operative! How does it work though?
Whenever you'll write a message on Discord the same message will be copy-pasted into Matrix in the corresponding room!
And what about the message written on Matrix side? The same thing will happen in this case, with Bridget (the bridge-bot, duh!) impersonating the Matrix user and writing the message on Discord.
Many of Discord's flaws could be solved with an option to allow full google indexing & even browsing without an account.
I'd gladly opt in. So much weird crap is only on discords these days. I use my discord for, you know, actually chatting not tech support or Github updates, but I'd still happily opt into searchability.
Everything (not private for whatever reason) should be searchable. We went over this in the 90s. Ain't nobody find shit without search.
#LazyWeb is there a quick 'reply to this message' key in #Discord? I can applications key and find it that way but that feels longer than it should. Probably missing the obvious. Thanks.
I think at this point it's worth thinking about why we need text chats and voice/video calls integrated with each other like what #XMPP (try to), #Matrix, and #Discord do
Why not just go back to #IRC or something like #AIM for text, and something like #Skype for calls like the old days :sagume_think:
Holy banana bread. Just used #discord on mobile after months of not using it, and I’m just consistently amazed at how sluggish a chat app is. It’s even so sluggish that it slows down my actual iPhone and screen reader. How does a chat room application get to be so Bloated that it feels like there’s malware on my phone until I force quit the application. The website is just marginally better. Can we go back to #IRC or forums again please?
A service called Spy Pet is scraping Discord servers, archiving and tracking users' messages and activity, and then selling access to that data.
Spy Pet scrapes more than 10,000 Discord servers, and besides selling access to anyone with cryptocurrency, it offers the data for training AI models or to assist law enforcement agencies, according to its website.
Spy Pet claims to be tracking more than 14,000 servers, 600 million users, and includes a database of more than 3 billion messages.
The official chat room for a privacy community is discord?
Is this a joke?
What's the point of all these UI changes?

Discord plans to let creators sell downloadable products (www.theverge.com)
Discord wants to help you monetize your server.
