I've been fooling around with #Doom on the #MiyooMiniPlus recently... partly because it's cool that I can, but also because Doom is, somehow, still an amazing game. It feels, forgive the pun, eternal.
It's easy to forget just how seismic Doom felt in 93. It appeared from nowhere, when everyone was talking about #SNES or #Megadrive or #Amiga... and somehow made PCs a thing!
Feeling perfect out of the gate, it made other platforms chase that elusive beast - the worthy Doom-clone. Few came close.
Finished Doom I, Doom II, on my way to finish Sigil. Now I wonder what to do next. Doom II master levels, or Doom 64 (started) or some other megawad. I had more fun playing all this Doom than any other modern games. Just pure fun, no bullshit.
I just let down my hair and FULLY TURNED UP my desk speakers so my neighbors could also enjoy the SHEER RIFFAGE from this BANGER of a first track from the new High On Fire record 'Cometh the Storm' that comes out April 19 (nice).
The latest version of my retro texture pack is now available. That's 300 high-quality, low-resolution textures, for just $5! They take heavy inspiration from #retrofps games like #doom and #quake#pixelart#gamedev

⌨⬛ This is the NeXT computer. Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau used it at CERN to set up the first web server, id Software developed games like Doom and Quake on it, and at Slovenian daily newspaper Delo they used it to digitize the entire newspaper production process.
Decided for shits n' grins to port PureDOOM to my Dreambox fantasy console.
It was not hard at all, it turns out. Audio was probably the trickiest part, since Dreambox is really not super designed for streaming realtime audio (but it is technically doable)
I guess this could count for Black Metal Monday too-- there's a new Wolves in the Throne Room EP called Crypt of Ancestral Knowledge that comes out on Friday and the preview track sounds GREAT (of course) - I mean, WITTR really NEVER disappoint.
For those of you who love heavy music and are making #AOTY lists, make sure you check out The Obelisk's top 60 list first, just released. I have found quite a few favorites through JJ, he has excellent taste and is a great reviewer.
So, I just got my Limited Run physical release of Doom Eternal (for Switch). It's my first time playing it and... something feels off.
I loved Doom 2016 from the get go but this one feels... The tone feels wrong?
I'm getting Doom 2 flashbacks. Yes, Eternal seems to basically be Doom 2 Redux, but I mean in terms of how I feel about it.
I've always preferred the first Doom over Doom 2. 2 did weird things with its level design that just sort of changed the tone of the whole thing. It felt more cartoony almost. Kind of sloppy.
I feel like Eternal is making the same "mistakes". I just put it in quotes because it could very well be just a personal preference thing. I haven't gotten far enough in this to be able to really pick apart the mechanics and crap.
