Those who were scandalised by @element selling encrypted @matrix communications services to cops, and suggesting XMPP as a replacement, you might be interested to know that...

#Followerpower. ❤️ 👍
HELP!
Our Matrix server and/or Element client just doesn't seem to invite people to rooms, properly. Is there anyone out there with a LOT of matrix experience who can help us figure this out? It's been a problem for months, and delays a really interesting project;
I'm trying #cinny to replace #element as a daily #matrix client because not only it is one of the featured clients with beautiful and consistent UI, but also I've been really fed up with governance of vector-im, to which I had essentially provided just free labor.
If you like a simple UI centered on text based communication without a bunch of features such as widget and thread, cinny should be a better choice than Element, though the client seems to lack basic features like permalink.
is there a way to force fetching all encryption keys (i.e. what I think happens automatically when scrolling up in the history) without doing that manually in #element / some other #matrix client? Or is my understanding of how this works incorrect? :boost_ok:
This week has been pretty busy at work. Hopefully it has resulted in absolutely awesome results!
✨ Cold start up time for Element X Android has significantly improved from 3-4sec to 100-150ms for accounts with 1000, 2000 or even 4000 rooms (≈30x speed up). That’s awesome! ✨
I’ll explain tomorrow how we did that. Async Rust and immutable data types simply rock.
#MeaCulpa I just realized that I was joining in the chorus of disapproval about John Mastodon driving new signups to his flagship mastodon.social server, in very strident terms, despite having made excuses for the matrix folks doing exactly the same thing; driving new sign-ups to the matrix.org homesever in Riot/Element. I guess it just reminds me that nobody is immune from bias, however fair and balanced we're trying to be 🫣
Liebe #Follower.
My son friends and their parents recently joined @element with their Android phones.
Two of them created accounts with the Google SSO support, but when they joined a encrypted room - the top of the app was filled with a warning about "key backup", when clicked - nothing happens.
Have anyone else noticed this bug?
Kinda annoying and not a good onboarding experience for new users :/
I just reinstalled @element on Android and set up a new @matrix account on it. The handy UI that divided rooms and people (DMs) into separate tabs is gone, replaced by a one column UI with a confusing mixture of rooms and people. I've been through all the settings, multiple times, and I can't figure out how to get my familiar UI back.
India blocks 14 apps including #element, @briar, threema, imo etc
"While tracking down one of the communication, agencies found that the mobile application does not have representatives in India and it is difficult to track down activities happening on the app".
This is a dangerous precedent and opens the door to ban any app/service not having a presence in India. We should challenge this order in the Supreme Court.
PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS. I am looking for a React-capable, full-stack developer who would like to lead a new fork of #Element.io. The existing forks are simply not very aggressive, and there is a massive void for a project that is. I am confident that a few new features and some better documentation will make it very popular, very fast. #developers#FOSS#matrix
To be honest: Even after the response, the original article – and my own experience with Matrix & Element – leaves me wondering whether Matrix is really the way to go, and whether these issues can ever be solved.
ElementX (the next-gen Matrix client) is coming soon! We have a very interesting stack on the client side. Be prepared for a loooong blog post.
Meanwhile, I go back polishing every details…
For some reason not all of my #Matrix conversations show up in #ElementX so I end up having two versions of #Element installed on my #Android phones which is not wonderful for battery life and data usage. Element X should have been branded as Element Beta or something along those lines.
