As part of my commitment to being brave about sharing my creative output I’ve uploaded some sample songs from a demo EP (2008) and demo album (2014) to my #FunkWhale account. 👨🎤
Das Kind möchte einen Podcast produzieren, ist aber noch zu jung um das im öffentlichen Internet zu tun. Welche Platformen/Lösungen gibt es Audio-Sendungen mit einem geschlossenen Freundeskreis zu teilen? #fedieltern
@viennawriter@smic
If you're looking to share music, podcasts or other audio on the Fediverse, you might want to sign up on a FunkWhale server.
Funkwhale is a free open source audio platform featuring channels that can be followed from Mastodon etc. You can sign up on servers or start your own.
@gcrkrause I'd like to learn about this! ActivityPub is described as a Federated server-to-server API for delivering notifications and content. As a user I think of it as a way to easily follow accounts/people and get notified or get them in my feed. I can't do that with Funkwhale accounts yet. Posting a link from #funkwhale is just like posting a Youtube link, isn't it? Is that federation?
:fedi: Since I don't do enough here yet ( 😉 ) I'm now part of the communications team of :funkwhale: @funkwhale!
For those who don't know: #Funkwhale is part of the Fediverse and an awesome platform for sharing :cc_cc: freely licensed music and other audio.
I once hosted a Funkwhale instance for climate justice podcasts and stuff, but shortly after the :fff: FridaysForFuture podcast I was publishing there stopped making new episodes and since nobody else seemed to be interested in publishing on my instance I canceled it.
Some of the episodes of the fff podcast are still on open.audio: https://open.audio/channels/FutureOnAir/ (it's in German).
Finally, managed to take the Listening History of my #funkwhale instance via the API and use #N8N to construct an RSS feed out of the listened tracks by the logged-in users, this then allow me to have @buzzworkers tooting about the tracks users are into right now !
At a personal level, maybe using algo-driven & ad-supported social media seems fine. That's really what most media is. Radio & TV have always done this, deciding what comes next. Most streaming options will auto play something now too. Fine.
The problem is at the collective level. A world where a few corporations have so much control over what everyone pays attention to is not a healthy society. It's bad for democracy. Breaking this cycle is why the #fediverse matters. Here, we decide together.
but Apple doesn't have all the music. #FunkWhale could if every artist had an account on some server and they all federated. we could set our player apps to deal with the network we knew about in any way we wished.
a decentralized payment system is key to making this all happen without ads or mega corps.
Greetings to all throughout #Equestria and thy #Fediverse!
If y'all didn't know, #ElevenLabs now has quite a few new Pre-made voices! Among the following #SunRealms update, you'll here two of them, and one generated voice. Can you tell which voice is the randomly generated one?
This post will also be up on the Sun Realms Media #Odysee page, which 'may' still be switching to #FunkWhale, though that depends on if the pod I want to use remains to be a permanent one.
Youtube will always be a last resort, unless I really should go that route? If so, it's getting it's own channel and programming won't be part of my personal one.
Also, if I do start a new Sun Realms Media channel on #FunkWhale, #youtube or #PeerTube (where #PeerTube seems to be the easiest to set up), the Sun Realms Odysee channel will be known as "Sun Realms Classic", and I'm still tempted to delete my personal Odysee channel, but haven't decided yet.
true, not sure which would be better. YouTube creators that don't get demonetized seem to be pretty happy. I want a #PeerTube#FunkWhale future with donations. there is a better streaming payment model system possible where it doesn't go into a big pool, but your money goes to who you watch/listen to minus a service fee for the company. I think SoundCloud was considering that.
this is what I want to see happen with #PeerTube and #FunkWhale. artists put up their own stuff on their own site, but if feels like one seamless whole via fedi media player apps (on desktops, mobile or Roku etc). we set an amount per month and it gets distributed to them based on what we watch and listen to. we need something like a decentralized patreon to make that happen.
All music should be #ccmusic (or #libremusic?). everything is a remix and in the age of the net and rising decentralization, we should focus on human recommendations and sharing and direct support vs corporate algorithms and middleman profits.
but I don't understand music labels today. thus #netlabelday is confusing to me. I see labels evolving into online radio stations, with DJs who love that genre of music, set of artists or local scene. and #funkwhale should be a decentralized #Bandcamp.
I used to work at Grooveshark back in the day designing and building ads and themes for the site… Boy, did miss the culture and product and community sometimes...
Happy to help! Please let us know what you think about it after your deep dive.
Love to browse pods for obscure (mostly electronic) music and the community is very warm and welcoming in my experience.
I have yet to finda podcast that captivates me.
Would love to hear your opinion (and maybe some gems you found) on #Funkwhale !
#Threads is an app trying to play nice with the Fediverse while attempting to keep all of its corporate shenanigans intact, and keep full control out of the people's hands. Typical.
There's this other place, actually many other places. It's called the #Fediverse where you are not funneled into corporate algorithms and have full control of what you want to see.
I tried #Mastodon, #Kbin, #Hubzilla, #Funkwhale and now #misskey It's such different experience. Even if there pitfalls between some instances which is understandable some don't want to bee seen by everyone, but would like to federate with less known Instances or those with invitation only. But the wast difference between how some systems work and how one can be pure tech design as Masto or pure Weeb design as Misskey Kbin/Lemmy as forums and everything has #RSS. Misskey has RSS reader in it!
Who misses Grooveshark ? (i.imgur.com)
