"The channel of Quiboloy, who is on the wanted list of the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation, has been used as a platform to attack and red-tag #journalists and #activists, especially under the previous #Duterte administration. Quiboloy is a friend and ally of former president Rodrigo Duterte. " #ApolloQuiboloy#SexTrafficking#CashSmuggling
Unidentified individuals wearing masks have attacked and severely beaten Novaya Gazeta journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov in Chechnya [Federal Subject of Russia; Ukrainian parliament recognised it as temporarily Russian-occupied territory of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria]; the girl?s fingers were broken...
This SERIOUSLY needs more eyes on it. What #Meta has been doing with #Threads so far have all been absolutely ridiculous even with their own shitty standards. I hope all #tech#journalists/#news outlets out there are keeping tabs on all this and publish something to keep people informed.
You can still post links to #Canadian#news on #Facebook, but there's a trick. Put a space after the www part and tell people to copy and paste the address into their browser -- and delete the space.
Not great, but a temporary workaround.
Trump is now back posting on Twitter, claiming election interference, and Musk is retweeting him in support.
If Musk’s actions hadn’t already driven you away then I’m not sure this will, but up until now I understood people sticking around there for their audience.
But now? If you’re still on Twitter you’re in the Nazi bar and you’re okay with it.
The upside to all this rampant ChatGPT and language bots making up bullshit, talking heads/reaction idiots on #socials giving #news a "twist" and outright #blocking of news in socials in some countries (#Canada), we might.. hopefully.. be on the precipice of everyone going back to only digesting news direct from the source.
We didn't have fake news problems back when it only came from verified sources via legit #journalists who lost reputation when they fabricated. Lets do more o dat.
#Meta (#Facebook) has blocked links to all #Canadian#news sources. Show Canadian news some love, and visit the sites directly -- so they get the clicks they need. Here are links to a few. Others can create lists with more news outlets:
Any #infosec#journalists out there are working on a story about the current #crypto spam problem on Twitter? (I'm talking about what you see in the replies from the accounts @BennyGordon@baseballmarty@Greg_Weisman@thekevinryder and others). Message me, I have at least a cell phone number that is associated with one of the hackers, they put it into the two-factor setup on an old email I had.
I love how no one in #India seems concerned that the government (officially atleast) banned major #encrypted communication tools, or has any idea how little the option it leaves for the citizens and #journalists that might otherwise have some tools to use to secure their #privacy from abusive #corporations and the current #fascist regime.
EU governments want a broad legal carve-out to continue to use #spyware such as #Pegasus against reporters.
Governments are "taking dangerous steps towards legalising unacceptable forms of #surveillance against #journalists and their #sources. If confirmed, these changes would kill all the potential the European #MediaFreedomAct#EMFA has to stop spyware scandals in the EU," says @edri's @chlobemy
#Twitter hypocrisy makes clear that a major cultural shift has occurred that nobody is really asking about.
Back when the Divine Comedy was written #hypocrites were consigned to the 6th of ten levels of hell. Obviously, practicing hypocrisy has lost some of its stigma.
I mean, the is NO REASON anyone of #moral fiber should still be on that website. But there they all are. #Journalists, watching their fellows get banned … essentially eating their own by staying on. Incredible.
I’d love to hear thoughts on the cause of this decreasing stigma of #hypocrisy.
Heh, and here's Arstechnica with an article on #Mastodon, claiming that Mastodon doesn't have #journalists, it doesn't scale well, it's not welcoming to new users, doesn't have good features users want, and is pretty much dead with no one using it. This with the bonus about how the #twittermigration was not successful. Ooops!
In Oklahoma, a sheriff was caught discussing ways to murder journalists and lynch black people. If anyone tells you that fascism isn't alive in America, they need to wake up. Because it's here... and it's spreading.
Hey 🕵️♂️#OSINT🕵️♀️ 👀, Dictator Alert is a project that tracks the aircrafts of authoritarian regimes all over the world and runs several Twitter bots that announce when these aircrafts land in Paris, London, Geneva etc.
This initiative is run by two freelance investigative journalists: Emmanuel Freudenthal (@EmmanFre), based in East Africa, and François Pilet (@FrancoisPilet), based in Switzerland.
