In 1969, an American soul group based out of D.C. recorded the song "Amen, Brother". Halfway-ish through the track, the band pauses to let the drummer, G.C. Coleman, perform a solo. This 7 second solo went on to influence (or outright create) #HipHop, #Jungle, #DrumAndBass, #Breakbeat, and much more.
They were The Winstons, they created the Amen Break that completely changed modern music, and they got next to nothing for it.
I need an extremely fine music selection from my FediFriends, to be listened to on decent headphones in the trains I take weekly.
I need some complete albums, or hour-long playlists
It's usually in the morning, crowded and noisy, so : something energetic, with drums, acoustic or not. Any style can be taken into consideration, I don't care about styles very much.
In case you missed it: The January 1 episode of BBC's #UniversityChallenge (Sheffield v Aberdeen) had a question about the "genre of dance music developed in the UK in the early 1990s out of the rave scene and reggae sound system culture, with acts like A Guy Called Gerald, and Goldie".
The answer "Drum & Bass" led to the host responding "we need Jungle I'm afraid", which caused quite a few memes & remixes.
And just in case you wonder, no, Jungle and DnB are not the same, and I wouldn't have accepted Drum & Bass as an answer either when the question explicitly mentions reggae, and artists with Jamaican roots.
In case anyone is looking for a #Jungle / #DnB soundtrack for this fine Saturday afternoon / night / Sunday morning, check out my live B2B #DJmix with Sammy B-Side on NYE 2010.
*This is a #repost from last Sunday, but this time I have a crappy autogenerated preview below.
Did you know that Big Flood #mythology is almost universal?
E.g. in West #Newguinea, the Fayu people speak of the time Bisa & Beisa, a man & a woman, had to find a new home. They came upon a #jungle & while walking in it, it started raining.
The #rain never ceased & the two built a canoe. A few animals joined them.
When the water reached the treetops, the boat was swept to a cave. Here they lived & had kids that made the first Fayu.
Their bodies, turned stone, are still in the cave today.
As part of Radio Free Fedi's 24-hour New Year's event, I will be broadcasting live 📡 starting at 0:00/12:00AM (EST), January 1st, 2024! Tune in after the ball drops for an energizing mix of future funk, UKG, jungle and other flavors of music to move your body to!
