Apparently you can clean 78s with WD-40. I'd not tried it before, but I have one record that was so dirty it just wouldn't play - dirt puts more drag on the needle, and the spring motor isn't as powerful as an electric one, so it just ground to a halt after two or three rotations. My normal cleaning method of soapy water and a toothbrush didn't help, so I tried the WD-40... and sure enough, it plays perfectly now! #gramophone#RetroTech#records#music
Last June night was one of the coldest in recent decades in northern and eastern Germany. Some records for the lowest temperature were even broken near the ground.
The cause was a fresh inflow of very dry polar air, which was able to cool down optimally in clear and windless conditions. The dry soils also played a role.
In this episode, we take a journey into the world of aviation training with a set of three records from TWA Transportation Training called “Code Course”. These records feature six lessons designed to train airmen in the art of Morse code.
"As I read through the guidelines, a voice inside me had whispered: 'What if this is my secret skill? A hitherto undiscovered genius I have: standing on one leg blindfolded?' I didn’t really expect to break the record. But the tiny possibility was thrilling." @guardian
It's absolutely beat to hell, but when I find an original copy (JP's old copy, according to the cover) of a classic like Paranoid at Goodwill for less than $3, I can't just leave it there. It's too damn beautiful and badass. 🤘
Animated map showing long-duration weather stations setting daily, monthly, and all-time record highs and lows in 2022.
Weather variations continue to routinely set both new highs and lows, but as global warming progresses new highs have become much more common than new lows.
Picked up this 2021 reissue of David Wiffen's 1965 album, At The Bunkhouse Coffeehouse. What a voice David had back then; deep, rich and dripping with maple syrup.
I’m plugging back in after an entire weekend basically offline. This is something very new to me, having only done it a couple of times, but it’s really nice.
The highlight of my weekend was getting this amazing U2 vinyl at a nearby record shop I didn’t even know had popped up. This joins my The Smashing Pumpkins vinyl I scored on Friday. Woohoo!
Our elders had a lot to say about us as a culture. We were so very depraved you see. But I've flipped through their record collections at thrift stores.. between every two gospel records? Smut. #records#vinyl#thrifting#smut
If I could afford it I would only collect OG #bluenote records, and while still mostly gravitate toward them, the #tonepoet reissues are done so well they are hard to pass up as gap fillers. Love this one. What a lineup and session. #jazz#jazzrecords#jazzvinyl#records@vinylrecords
Happy #RecordStoreDay!! Here's a small portion of my vinyl collection, arranged in a colorful pattern and edited in a vintage camera color pallet and vignette.
An #AbstractArt piece, the subject of which was suggested by a friend in the past year. While I have stuck to digital my childhood was vinyl and cassettes and which of those have survived? I'll let you guess. LOL
