I think I've had it with the breakage of #Gnome#extensions, so I decided to only use one to minimize the danger: "App Icons Taskbar". It has an icon to show all apps, and the fav/open apps as well.
The truth is, the vast majority of people want a launch bar. This is evident by the massive amount of downloads for Dash to #Dock and Dash to Panel specifically. The insistence of the Gnome proj to ignore users for 15 years now, and force mobile UIs is a mystery to me.
If you're a fan of #penpot , and you want to see the latest developments, don't forget you can follow the short video updates from their own #peertube account directly from #mastodon @penpot_app
We've long admired the Open Tree of Life (https://tree.opentreeoflife.org). Curatorial #UI, #UX ideas there are spiritual precursor to new work we're doing.
The concept is: filter a set of records, choose attributes of that set and display those columns.
Then the first step is to edit any value in place. But it gets more fun, with a regular expression in the middle of two attributes we can match and transform values between two columns, one at a time, or in batch. #dataquality here we come!
You know how it is: You start writing one #blog article, but while writing you come up with an idea for another one. And here it is, how to cancel a #figma subscription:
I can't believe the Mastodon web interface still doesn't have a theme that auto-adjusts to the system's light/dark mode preferences. It just has "Light", "Dark", and "High Contrast", none of which GAF about the system settings.
So when, to take an example that I'm currently experiencing, I go from being outside in a park to a dark bar and flip my system theme from light to dark, I then also have to adjust Masto independently. Unlike everything else. It's #BadUX, TBH.
Tons of progress on my #DOOM mod launcher today. Profile selection, support for custom commands, properly anchoring everything for window resizing and more!
It's already very usable, now I just need to implement adding/removing profiles and start working on general polish.
I'm making a new mod launcher for #DOOM called CleanDoom! The goal is to have a simple, intuitive interface that doesn't get in your way and has numerous desperately needed quality of life features, such as automatically locating the flatpak version of GZDoom for Linux users and the ability to enable/disable mods without having to remove them.
This is two days of work, UI and theming are definitely NOT final... But here's a sneak peek anyways!
Trying to improve the wrong dimension of #UX will only lead to waste. Learn the difference:
Wonky products are confusing; their mental model doesn't match the user's. Janky products are conceptually fine, but buggy or inconsistent.
Jank manifests only at the hi-fi stage of development, and can be solved by UI redesign or backend optimization. However, wonk must be caught at the conceptual stage with lo-fi tools. You will NOT be able to fix it on the #UI layer.
Black Fox: a theme with a dark color scheme that fully modifies the appearance of @mozilla Firefox browser far beyond the built-in customization features.
The recent #UxCollective newsletter had a link for a user research report by #maze, which I wanted to download for my wife, because I have a "fake" #DuckDuckGo email.
I was expecting I could download it "for free" but have to give them my name, company I work at and my email.
A fucked up #DeceptivePattern because something is not for free when you're giving away private information. I want to write about this and ask you to send me your "best" examples of this pattern.
Mastodon Bird UI is now in version 2.0.0rc30. To this version I've been experimenting with the new 2024-03 v4.3.0-alpha.3 UI and @nileane Tangerine UI's compact header on mobile, thanks for the inspiration and shortcuts code-wise! :bunhdheart:
This version also includes some slight fixes, icons and other improvements.
The release v2.0.0 will be massive, but we're not there yet with Mastodon v4.3.0 and because I'm following the Mastodon mainline and there is no ETA, I'm taking it easy as well.
"Out-of-touch, influential old guy working in web accessibility for many years claims that all hope is gone and only #AI can save us. People who he thinks are disabled will receive a more “concise” UI, because he thinks they are not able to use a computer and assistive technology."
that edit and delete button are so close together will never not be fatally unfortunate 😬 #ui#ux#mastodon
Yeah. Who would have thunk, even in red, that anyone would accidentally delete important posts trying to edit them. Nobody would do this. Of course not. Soooo ridiculous! 😢
