My friend who emigrated to Spain posted that he had to go to the Emergency Room today. Instead of it breaking his bank account, the visit only cost him €16.

We are being ripped off in ways we don't even realize by the US health “care” non-system which is designed to maximize corporate profits by bankrupting patients.

We need a new model and should adopt one of the universal health care models that get much better health care outcomes than ours.

We do need UHC, but not M4A.

We need something real. ACA expansion is real.

, my oldest sister, who has brain cancer, goes into a nursing facility. She can no longer care for herself. She's fought lymphoma, eye cancer and now the brain. She's a tough old broad, who's had so much chemo and radiation thrown at her, I'm surprised she's not glowing.

The care facility will cost $9,000 a month. A month.

British people, I cannot explain adequately what absolute hell the American healthcare system is. You know how people say: "at least in the US, you can get fast treatment. At least in the US, you can choose your doctor. At least in the US, you can get the most innovative treatment"?

Lies. All of it.

The US healthcare system excels at one thing only, and that's bankrupting people.

I'm an American, living near Chicago. My husband works for a large hospital chain and has #HealthInsurance that is among the best around.

He has Type II diabetes, w/ no complications (just needing pills 2x/day). I'm in my midlife, and our 25yo daughter lives with us, partly so she can keep getting her health coverage.

Our family regularly pays at least a few thousand dollars a year in extraneous medical costs (AFTER co-pay & including deductibles). Some years, it's as high as $5K (if we have any medical emergencies etc).

You do NOT want American privatized #HealthCare. We want YOUR system. We want our own #NHS.

(A reminder that more than 30M Americans have no health insurance of any kind, meaning that their "doctor visit wait times" are eternal.)

Anyone with more on this private medical clinic in that I was alerted about today?
Alerted by a friend who was told by her family physician that if she wanted to remain a patient that she needs to pay $1500 first.
That sounds illegal & in violation of federal health act.

Can anyone in BC please tell me more about legalities of this??

Image from Perpetual Healthcare in Victoria. Pop-up window says they are accepting private pay patients & to click to fill out intake form.

This is really a stretch, even for Big Pharma.

Merck, Bristol Myers Squibb, industry lobby group PhRMA, and the US Chamber of Commerce have all sued the US Federal Government, claiming it is unconstitutional for Medicare and Medicaid to negotiate lower drug prices.

On what grounds, you ask?

They cite the 8th Amendment. They believe that negotiating lower drug prices amounts to "excessive fines."

What the 8th Amendment actually covers:
"Eighth Amendment Cruel and Unusual Punishment
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

Virtually every other developed country negotiates drug prices and pays many orders less for their medications. But in the US, apparently this amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

Fed rate hikes aren't simply a dial that controls inflation.

They're more like a Rube Goldberg machine—slowing the economy so much that workers lose jobs and pay until (maybe, just maybe) prices drop.

This is a bad way to fight inflation that's largely driven by price gouging.
