People on mastodon.social, are you seeing the multicolumn ("advanced") interface by default, even if you didn't activate it?

Have had a couple of reports now of this happening, has mastodon.social made it the default by accident?

It used to be the default years ago, but since then the simpler single column interface was made the default. Multicolumn shouldn't be appearing by default.

If it happens to you, instructions for switching back to normal at https://fedi.tips/how-to-activate-mastodons-tweetdeck-style-advanced-web-interface/

Judeau,
@Judeau@mas.to avatar

@feditips it sounds like I have the opposite issue yesterday. I'm on mas.to and have used the multi column interface for over a year.

When I logged in yesterday it was back to a single column. First time that has ever happened. In the upper right corner of the screen I had to toggle 'Advanced Interface' and then everything switched back to my customized multi column mode.

Can anyone recommend some #anime that will give me and my spouse The Feels™? We watched Maboroshi last night and really enjoyed it, and we're now watching Orange with a plan to move on to Your Lie In April after that if we can still take it. We've also recently enjoyed Toradora!, Violet Evergarden, and Your Name.

A Silent Voice - About a deaf girl, a bully and the difficulties of growing up and trying to make amends. Very emotional.

Wolf Children - If you're a parent this one hits especially hard. It's about a mother trying to raise her two werewolf children as best she can. It sounds strange but it's one of the most beautiful films I've ever watched.

Summer Wars - The story of a large family that has to pull together and use their connections and skills to save the world. Togetherness

I never got to play Megaball on the but I loved it's inspired remake, DX-Ball on the

I just recently I discovered Ababall and loaded it onto my device and am having a blast with it.

What are some of your favorite ball and bat / Arkanoid style games?

Ababall on the Palm OS line of devices. Rows of blocks are arranged in different colors.

Judeau,
@Judeau@mas.to avatar

@rootcompute Another DX-Ball fan! 😁

Yeah. I've had DX-Ball 2 on my steam wish list for some time. I'll probably bite the next time it goes on sale.

Back in the early 2000s one of my friends gave me a copy of both 1 and 2 and I played them like crazy throughout the years.

To me it really is the standard by which all others are judged, but I'm curious what other great bat and ball games are out there.

janejana, to phantasystar

I started playing Phantasy Star III yesterday. I've had this copy for awhile--the sheer number of stickers from the rental store it came from always makes me laugh.

I actually love physical games with rental store stickers--in retrospect, they were a short-lived phenomenon, and having evidence that they existed feels more meaningful than a pristine cart.

Anyway, I'm not far but wheeeew, PSIII did not age well. I feel the same way about PSII tbh. Important games in a historical context but really hard to just play through and enjoy, lol

Judeau,
@Judeau@mas.to avatar

@janejana Aha! So that was the issue! Thanks for letting me know.

I have never played an RPG where poison completely prevents a character from being healed. I believe I had both the instruction book and the official strategy guide and neither said anything about that as far as I recall.

I assumed my copy of the game was bugged for years until I saw it casually mentioned on a forum somewhere.

I just never got back around to giving the game another go.

Judeau,
@Judeau@mas.to avatar

@janejana Uhhhggg... all those stickers plastered on the cart are one thing I certainly don't miss about seeing video rental games out in the wild.

I never made it very far in PSIII either. I liked what I played but I had issues with the magic system and did not realize what was causing my issues.

If I remember correctly I had some poison characters that I could not heal and I believe I heard that if they are poisoned, healing spells won't work.

I have yet to verify this. one day I will see.

It looks and sounds great but I'm not sure I could ever give this game a serious play without the Genesis/Mega Drive OST. Some of the best music on the system. So much so that I find it Inseparable from the game. 😅

Though I would love to give the Amiga version a try sometime.

Judeau,

@Sobtanian Yeah. It's interesting and sounds great! It took me by surprise and gives the game a very different vibe than the hard hitting Genesis version.

I really like Paint.net on and was hoping to find a alternative to the program.

I stumbled across and so far it looks great and seems to be a copy of Paint.net.

I'm still curious though. Are there any other similar programs that I should check out?

Judeau,
@Judeau@mas.to avatar

@bazkie So it's not just me then. 😁

I installed Pita and so far it seems like a decent Paint.net substitute, but I'll have to use it for a while before I can be certain.

In the meantime I thought I would ask here and see what the Linux community suggests.

Judeau,
@Judeau@mas.to avatar

@buru5 I need to take another look at Krita. The last time I messed with it was several years ago.

I am much more familiar with photo editing now so it would probably be worth the second look.

I agree. Paint.net is amazing. It does absolutely everything that I need it to do and is very intuitive.

Gimp is an incredibly powerful program but is just overwhelming to me and does far more than I need.

For me, paint.net strikes a perfect balance.

Do I need to worry about how many hz the monitor is? I don't fully understand that stuff.

I often adjust my steam deck depending on the game. Sometimes 60hz and sometimes 40hz

Does the monitor that I get need to be divisible by those numbers? Should i stick with 120hz or 240hz or does it really matter?

Gwendolyn, to Horror
@Gwendolyn@eldritch.cafe avatar

So, I had a real horror flick rollercoaster ride.

Looking through a list of horror films to check out, I passed by The Slumber Party Massacre (1982). Immediately, I filed it under "this is trash, avoid". Then I noticed the director name. It was a woman. I got curious, and then looked a bit further and the writer was a woman too. An outspoken feminist. Well... had I almost judged this book by its cover?

So, I decide to give it a shot.

Oof. First scene... tits. Very male gaze... more tits. Then, as it goes on... scene after scene of gratuitous male gaze nudity... and I'm like... ok... yeah... this is what I expected initially.

But the movie kept doing weird things that kept my attention. It loved fake scares and misdirection. It had some straight up funny scenes... so I finished it. Something about the tone just seemed so all over that I had to do some more digging after it was over.

So, apparently to have funding to make the film, the producer made the excess nudity a requirement... which explained how odd the nudity shots were shot... almost in a comical, deliberate "Here! Is this what you want?!" way.

All in all. It was better than I expected. I could have done without the excessive male gaze exploitation, but it did enough fun stuff to elevate itself from "This is trash, avoid", to "If you like some cheesy horror. You might like this".

Judeau,
@Judeau@mas.to avatar

@Gwendolyn Slumber Party Massacre is absolutely one of my favorite slashers.

It's so well done and nails the sleepover vibe.

I love near the beginning of the movie when the one girl comes to the front door of the house. Suddenly a drill goes through the door and almost gets her.

Then the door opens and the mom casually explains that she's installing a peep-hole. 😂

I love it!

I was always curious about parts 2 and 3 but I can't imagine they would live up to the first.

    It tells the story of how all of the characters in the game first meet.

    It's short at only 40 minutes and moves at a quick pace which allows for zero character development but I can't help but enjoy it.
