The other day, I saw an account from Medium's Mastodon instance. This account was clearly AI generated, and wasn't doing a whole lot to obscure that reality.

I noticed links to accounts on other platforms. I was curious.

The Github account linked from the Maston account dated from 2019, and appears to have been repurposed for this AI persona.

The most recent Github activity was a project with a sibgle ReadMe page from March 2023, with links to other spam AI generated posts.

FFS. People are really talking about "AI literacy" in education.

Want to teach "AI literacy"? Teach history that includes an honest look at systemic racism. Teach intersectionality.

Teach statistics. Teach logic. Teach literature. Teach drawing.

There is no such thing as "AI literacy". There is the logic of appropriation, and theft, and predictions based on what has been taken.

Yep. Spot on. This is the fundamental reason that is getting so many billions poured into it. It’s the lure of replacing expensive labor with automation. Corporations have endlessly squeezed blood from lower-cost labor and they are salivating at the prospect of getting rid of high-cost labor.

This is unfortunate, because AI has actual uses. As models get more specialized and smaller, I can see AI automating a lot of rote work away at reasonable cost. Unfortunately, the corporate hype is so strong right now it’s muddying all the conversations.

Teachers are feeding student work into honeypots collecting a new corpus of training data for the next generation of shit ML.
