Reading about the fire at the old Copenhagen stock exchange and seeing its spire collapse brings back memories of seeing Notre-Dame's spire collapse, almost exactly five years ago.

Anyone who’s flown into SFO has probably seen the brightly colored salt ponds in the bay. Here’s a wonderful story about the 50-year project to restore the wetlands that once were there — saving some of the salt ponds for wildlife that’s adapted to living there.

April 1, and sadly not a joke: Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com get acquired:

April 12: The entire team of lexicographers at Dictionary.com gets laid off.

@Clobber I don't know anything about IXL, but given this move I assume they're another horrible company, Would you be up to giving me a quick update on what's up with IXL?

@jeridansky@sfba.social avatar

Reading about the — something totally new to me here in California — and it sure sounds bad for trans folks in the UK. Restricting social transition? Not much evidence for gender affirming care? Restrictions for folks up to age 25? If I'm reading this correctly, I'm so so sorry for all the harm this will cause.

If anyone has a good summary of the report from a trans-friendly source, would you please let me know?

A slightly blurred photo of Tennessee because getting him to stand still and look into the camera is a challenge. But you can still see his whiskers!

"At Meta .... managers, lawyers & engineers last year discussed buying the publishing house Simon & Schuster to procure long works .... They also conferred on gathering copyrighted data from across the internet, even if that meant facing lawsuits. Negotiating licenses with publishers, artists, musicians & the news industry would take too long, they said."

@mmasnick illustrates how bad the NYT's political reporting can be:

“I’m going to focus on a NY Times article by Maggie Astor & Rebecca Davis O’Brien. They’re politics reporters, & that often means that they’re covering the politics & not the facts when it comes to the fundamental details of what they’re reporting on. And that’s a problem. It leads to ... reporting where you report what people are saying but not whether or not what they’re saying is true.”

@JohnJBurnsIII I'm so sorry. I hope you found another good vet to patronize.

So far, I've been lucky. My wonderful local vet sold her practice when she retired, but she tried to pick a decent chain to sell to. I've got a great vet there, and I sure hope she stays.
