I love having a CO2 monitor to check the air quality in indoor spaces (my grocery store, my dentist’s office, etc.). I’m relieved when stores have good ratings, and I’ve convinced my dentist’s office to open windows to get the rating down to an acceptable level.

I use an and thanks to @brainwane I learned they are on sale (at quite a discount) until Sept. 17. Highly recommended for the Covid-cautious who don’t have one already.

"The race to lead A.I. has become a desperate hunt for the digital data needed ..."

"At Meta .... managers, lawyers & engineers last year discussed buying the publishing house Simon & Schuster to procure long works .... They also conferred on gathering copyrighted data from across the internet, even if that meant facing lawsuits. Negotiating licenses with publishers, artists, musicians & the news industry would take too long, they said."

For all the reports I'm seeing about increased infections, I'm not seeing them from folks who consistently wear great masks, even if the folks around them are not masking. Is that what others are noticing, too?

Do any of you folks make a Father's Day card that would work for my 98-year-old dad? He doesn't fish or play golf. But he has been quite a wonderful father! I'm looking for a printed card, not a downloadable file.

You know those "reading time" labels you see on some articles, such as the CNN example I've attached? @tosbourn explains why his company removed them from its posts:

  • It is ableist to tell someone how quickly we think they should read.
  • It was never accurate.
  • We already show word count.
  • It isn’t a reflection of how we use the web.

Just got my voter information guide for the March 5 primary here in .

There are 27 candidates to replace Dianne Feinstein as senator, and three strong Democratic candidates: Barbara Lee, Katie Porter & Adam Schiff. That's one I'll need to ponder. Any Californians with a strong preference?

(I hate that we have an open primary which often makes me think I need to vote for strongest Democrat to make sure we have a Democrat on the November ballot.)

I've switched my donation to Ko-fi, as requested — and used this opportunity to increase my monthly donation a bit.

I've been super Covid-cautious, so I'm definitely nervous about flying to Florida in December (with my brother and sister-in-law) for my dad's 99th birthday, even though I'll be well-masked for the flight and any time I'm indoors. But if there was ever a reason for me to risk the travel, this is it.

One upside: The hotel we're staying at has windows that open, so hotel room ventilation/filtration is one less thing to fret about.

No surprise to anyone who's worked on software:

GM "is racing to diagnose & fix software issues that have caused flickering screens, looping error messages & glitchy charging in some of its most important new electric vehicles. Similar problems are plaguing the entire auto industry.”

“Multiple carmakers, including GM, Volkswagen, Volvo Cars & Polestar, have delayed new EVs while they rethink their approach to software development.”

So we're supposed to get rain straight for the next 24 hours with 2" in total. Not nearly as overwhelming as some other places, but still a lot of rain.

I should be fine, although the high winds we're also supposed to get could always take out my power. The winds usually don't, though. But just in case, I've eaten the most expensive item in my freezer. 😁

Dr. Gottesman’s husband died in 2022 at age 96. “He left me, unbeknownst to me, a whole portfolio of Berkshire Hathaway stock,” she recalled. The instructions were simple: “Do whatever you think is right with it."
