Have you heard about the cyberattack that's had a devastating impact on many patients and medical providers alike?

This article from @zackwhittaker is a great summary of what's happened and where we are now — written so it's understandable by someone like me who has zero expertise in cybersecurity.

My fellow Covid-cautious folks already know the problems with the CDC’s recent guidance about Covid and isolation. But this article sums up the problems nicely — something good to share with others who may not be as knowledgeable.

The poor admins of my instance, sfba.social, are having to deal with the fiscal host for our donations shutting down.

I've switched my donation to Ko-fi, as requested — and used this opportunity to increase my monthly donation a bit.

He passed just after his 82nd .

Old coach houses, with servants quarters above them, behind the 1880s townhouses on Cleveden Road in Glasgow. The two parallel tracks are stoneways made from granite slabs designed to allow coach wheels to travel more smoothly along the otherwise cobbled lane.

I don't normally read news on the World Socialist Web Site, but it does have some of the most spot-on reporting I've seen re: the CDC's Covid isolation guidance that came out last week. I'm happy to see Dr. Ellie Murray quoted.

(There's some editorializing as to the motivation behind the new guidance, which you may or may not agree with.)

The Kickstarter for Project Tapestry is nearing its end — 50 hours to go — and it’s approaching its first stretch goal. It’s going to be a very cool app, but it’ll be even cooler if we hit that goal! Please take a look and consider supporting this one if you haven’t already.

Found more books lying around the house I hadn't read yet. Some are getting freecycled — but as a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn and Breakfast Tiffany's (except the Mickey Rooney part) I decided to start in on this one.

The movie came out when I was a preteen and I think that's when I first saw it. Of course that means some aspects went way over my head.

From an ex-Automattic employee:

"When I was laid off last summer, the reason I got from HR was that 'I wasn't aligned with the direction the company needed to take'. And holy shit, wasn't that true.

"As I said, I can't trust Automattic more than I trust Facebook, Google, or Twitter. And it breaks my heart and I can't believe I've just wrote that."

My suggestion: Just follow The Verge's advice and buy a Brother laser printer. I'm very happy with mine — something I never expected to say about a printer.

@zakalwe I was an HP/Agilent employee for 23 years and started in the Bill-and-Dave years. It's really sad to see what HP has become.

I don't know how good Agilent is or isn't any more. My last interaction was in 2003 when they moved all of my IT department's jobs to India and laid us all off. (Got a good severance package, though.)

A fantastic summary of where we stand today re: Long Covid:
https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adl0867

"The pandemic has laid bare a blind spot in epidemiology & surveillance data systems for infectious diseases. Nearly all surveillance data systems are built on the archaic, and now obsolete, notion that accounting for cases, hospitalization, and death in the acute phase is sufficient to capture the health burden of the infection."
