@RickiTarr lol. I once watched two young feral brothers, tails entwined, walk together down a dirt driveway after a storm. Lovely, social, companionable.

Then one brother hip-checked the other brother into a puddle.

Cats are assholes.

"Trump’s newly installed leadership team at the RNC began the process of pushing out dozens of officials.

All told, the expectation is that more than 60 RNC staffers who work across the political, communications and data departments will be let go. Those being asked to resign include five members of the senior staff, though the names were not made public. Additionally, some vendor contracts are expected to be cut" https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/11/bloodbath-at-rnc-trump-team-slashes-staff-at-committee-00146368

@GottaLaff Brilliant.
I've never met Joe, but I knew a fellow, union shop steward, who had. He told a story about meeting Joe decades ago, when Joe mentioned playing football. He was asked what position he played. Biden says "Assback" The guys say "What?" Biden says, with a chuckle, "I rode the bench until I begged coach to put me in. I was sent in, and after one play, coach motioned me over. I ran up, "Yes, coach!" He yells "Biden! Get your ass back on the bench!" All those old working class guys all fell in love with Biden on that day because he's a regular guy. With a disarming self-depreciating twinkle.

Something I've noticed a lot lately, is that especially Boomer women, but honestly, women in general, don't seem to ask for what they want or need in a direct way. I notice this a lot with my Mom and her friends. Instead of just asking for what they need directly they tell a story, to ask in a roundabout way. For instance, my Mom needed help this morning, and Instead of just saying, "Hey, I dropped my remote, can you pick it up for me?" She tells a one minute story about what happened, no ask, and eventually I get the point, and then suggest that I come pick it up. Or if one of her friends wants to do something like have a birthday party for a friend, they don't say "We should have a party!" They say, It's Sarah's Birthday coming up, you know she likes surprises, what does everyone think we should do?"

I often wonder if this is why older people think younger women are rude and demanding, because younger people often just ask for what they want and need in a more direct way. But also it's probably just straight up sexism, because men are supposed to make decisions, and women are supposed to make suggestions.

What do you all think? Is this just me? Have you experienced something similar?

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr lol. Boomer women are way more direct than our own mothers. I learned the roundabout "story language" of my own mom (born 1915) who never said "No." When she said "Oh. Mmmm. Oh. Maybe. Oh. Not so much." I understood she was actually waving her arms and screaming "No F*ing Way!"
Cultural traditions also factor in, as she was the child of immigrants from Japan who are notorious oblique language users.

Wendy's is introducing surge pricing? Next thing you know they'll be taking away the SuperBar!

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@Alice Gee, back in the olden times, management actually meant managing labor costs by predictive scheduling based on a pattern of need. And then, failing that, requiring salaried workers to pitch in and surge with unanticipated need, and then re-evaluating the parameters of your data and correcting your predictions. It was what some did in the olden times and it requires actual skills. Managers don't learn management skills are actually a thing, and not an excuse to hire a brunchbro nephew, or an autocrat, or pass the cost of incompetent management onto your hourly workers or customers.

My mother's life force was her fluid and complementary belief in Shintoism, Buddhism, and a loving Christianity, in the animating force in all things in the natural world. I grew up thanking stepping stones for carry the weight of my steps, saying hello to the wind, the singing birds, and being gentle as I climbed the limbs of trees. You see yourself as part of a whole, the whole as part of you, and thus always embracing and always being embraced by the world. Say hello to Ursula for me.

A word about left-wing conspiracy theories.

Yesterday I sent about 10 people to this page because they were saying the same untrue things about Merrick Garland that I disproved here with facts:

https://terikanefield.com/can-democracy-work-in-america-part-iii-an-msnbc-cnn-conspiracy-theory-and-the-perils-of-legal-punditry/

That's when I realized a new Merrick Garland conspiracy theory had taken hold.

My initial reaction was pure irritation.

A knew what it would take to disprove it. . .

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@Teri_Kanefield I like Elie Mystal but he's been feverishly and wrongly blaming Garland without every noting one clear truth about Garland DOJ's decision to start with the individual criminal J6 insurrectionists -- fear of arrest, fear of an FBI trap, fear of conviction and years in prison changed MAGA's certainty that they will never be punished. This averted riots at Trump hearings where he threatened thousands would show up (they didn't) and the recent anti-migrant 70,000 God's Trucker Army that never materialized. We haven't had another J6 because of DOJ arrests and convictions. The paramilitary PBs and Oathkeepers have been neutered. Garland. Garland deserves credit.

Whoa, Miss Cinnamon was just in the kitchen and she let out an unearthly war cry. I rushed in and she was staring at the patio door, her tail enormous, huffing and puffing around the edges of the door at some scent. I quickly turned on the light but couldn’t see anything. I’ve never seen her do the huffing and puffing before, I’m wondering what an earth the scent was. Could be a tomcat spraying the door (yuck) or maybe a more threatening garden intruder? A fox?

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@purplepadma I don't know what area of the country you live, but if your door is screen, you might want to close the solid door for the week or more in case it's a predator whose interest in Miss Cinnamon is deathly. A neighbor had a similar reaction from her cat, we found claw marks and rips on the screen window and the siding outside. Best wishes.

So tell me again, who has the support of his party? Trump-o barely breaks 50%.
