Nearly 20 years ago, I made a Craigslist post looking for a roommate.

This guy named Justin responded saying he wasn't looking for a roommate, but he liked my ad and the interests and music I'd listed and thought we might make good friends.

I ended up exchanging a series of emails with him and he was really cool and interesting.

At some point, I learned his last name was Franchi, so, being the absolute creep that I am, I googled his name and came up with a series of articles and bulletins about how Justin Franchi was wanted by the FBI for terrorism.

I was like WTF? but I was so curious about this guy so I continued talking. I brought it up to my friends and one was like "Yo, stop talking to that guy!" and the other was like "Keep talking! There's a REWARD!"

I was like "Y'all, I’m no narc. Besides, he's an 'ECO terrorist' so maybe he's not the bad guy?"

My friends were now even more invested than I was so we pored over his well-written yet strangely cryptic emails trying to figure out details on his whereabouts, reading into EVERYTHING as if it had a secret meaning.

At some point he said he would be "Coming from the west" and we were like "WTF, we're in Michigan, he could be ANYWHERE!"

He eventually gave me enough information to figure out that this Justin Franchi was just a normal guy from a suburb of Detroit and just happened to share a name with an eco terrorist on the FBI's most wanted list.

Even though I was no longer going to get a reward, I ended up meeting him and he was super cool and I remember hanging out and driving around in my Jetta listening to Swedish indie pop and we remained friends for several years until I moved to Chicago and changed my phone number and lost contact.

Just wanted to say hi (if you're out there) Justin Franchi (the indie pop one, not the terrorist one).

It insane to me how often women are not given pain management for gynecological procedures, because many many years ago a male doctor who's never had a vagina, cervix, or uterus decided that there weren't enough nerve endings up there to hurt significantly. I think it's time to put this fallacy to bed. It most definitely does hurt, and people who have literally no experience with female equipment don't get to decide this for me. Trust me docs, you don't want to taste your own medicine on this.

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr I knew an ED clinician who faced a tardy, indifferent male surgeon who became furious because she ordered pain meds for a patient with ovarian torsion in severe pain after she waited hours for the surgeon to come to examine her for surgery. My friend was livid because he dismissed the patient's pain as not serious and accused her of interfering with an accurate exam by him of "how serious" the condition was. She said that male docs routinely rx pain relief for men w testicular torsion. But not for people with freaking ovaries!

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@chemoelectric @GottaLaff Lol. Cohen, like Trump, isn't a boy scout. He has been very shady when he was hired by Trump to do shady things at Trump's direction. Trump paid Cohen a lot of money to lie, falsify, and do criminal things at Trump's orders for Trump's benefit, ie Trump was the "Individual -1" in the Cohen indictment and conviction and Cohen went to prison for his part in the crime. Cohen did the time to pay for his part in the crime. Now it's Individual-1's (the one who ordered and benefited) turn. See the Weisselberg, yet another dutiful subordinate, criminal Trump activity pattern? Cohen was also disbarred for his part.

The real question is why did DOJ refuse to charge the person who both ordered and benefited from the crime? I'd love to see Bill Barr supoenaed as a witness for Trump, then crossed by Bragg's team. Will never happen, but I'd enjoy it.

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@chemoelectric @TCatInReality @GottaLaff Hmm. Trump calling Brad Raffensperger on Jan 2, 2021 AFTER the November 2020 election on a recorded call, charged by Fani Willis as part of a criminal election conspiracy, in which the recorded call is evidence.
DOJ has allowed Trump politics to interfere with the fair application of justice, even as they do so out of fear of "the appearance of bias against Trump", they bend to fear of Trump, which he counts on.

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@chemoelectric @TCatInReality @GottaLaff
You could view it that way because Bill Barr/ DOJ chose to charge the hitman and not the mob boss, and protected the mob boss with The Presidency of The United States of America.
I'd say Garland chose to be an unwitting political accessory to the precedent set by Barr, allowing an injustice to fester, until states took action. Let me also say that I like Garland, and understand he made a judgment call. I have stood by his inclination to be free from the James Comer effect, however, I believe he (and I) misjudged how dangerous a Trump unfettered by a lifetime free of accountability to any iota of actual justice is a clear and present threat to our nation.

pattykimura,

@RickiTarr I wasn't bullied. I didn't find a lot of kids that interesting or kind in high school (I went to a large private school) to seek out. I have never had any major urge to belong to a group just to be in a herd. I passed on a few cliques that invited me to join. I found a small group by accident who ate lunch outside where I ate and read. They were interesting, kind, funny, low key, low drama, and invited me to sit with them, if I chose. Some were the horsey set, some artistic and creative, some kind and athletic, just reasonable nice very smart girls who weren't desperate for anything or anyone or for attention. We did high school girl stuff like sleepovers, lunch, hikes, swims, movies - I assume that's normal stuff, I have no idea. Remarkably secure for teenage girls, though. I liked them. We bullied no one, none of us were bullied, I am surprised now how terrible high school was for most. It isn't right.

She is best known for her groundbreaking book "Silent Spring," published in 1962, which brought attention to the environmental impact of pesticides, particularly DDT, and sparked a global environmental movement. The book is often credited with inspiring the modern environmental movement and the establishment of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Another all too barren spring in NYC. There should be so many insects, so many ants, so many tiny creatures filling the parks, hitting the windshields of cars.

Remember when bugs used to hit the windshields of cars because the air was so full of life?

I guess most people think this is 'improvement' but they are wrong. There is a campaign to put the American bumblebee on the endangered species list!

We are living in an eerie lifeless netherworld and I don't know why more can't see it!

pattykimura,
@pattykimura@beige.party avatar

@futurebird A neighbor had a problem with ants. Rather than simply use a pesticide, we identified the reason as water. We found a leak in her roof that wasn't enough to pour through her ceiling but enough to wet and soften wood and...attract ants. Roof was fixed (an unrealized significant threat) and ants went elsewhere.
Insects are the "canary in the coal mine" we ignore, misread, poison, or kill at our own peril.
