What are the free software and/or opensource events in your country /region that you would recommend. I want to give a few more talks about and this year.

Boost or introductions are super helpful.

pavi,
@pavi@social.masto.host avatar

@bogo Nearby has , Bonn. you can follow the account at @FrOSCon

Smaller events include @tuebix at Tübingen which was super warm.

I remember there is also Rhein Ruhr event happening. Linuxtag used to be in Berlin, but smaller versions of the event keep happening in small cities.

Chaos Congress happens at Leipzig every December.

Way back in 2019 I created a Hotmail account for testing purposes. After a few tests I never went back.

Such a requirement surfaced again. I rummaged around my logins file and re-discovered this Hotmail account, from nearly five years ago.

I was flabbergasted to find I was still able to login. It was like a time capsule inside, everything was still there, untouched, and maybe a little dusty. 😃 It was like going back in time.

We generally think that over-fishing is about fish that humans eat. But around a third of all wild-caught fish are turned into fishmeal, because fishmeal is around 65% protein and therefore in demand for for feeding farmed fish and pigs. It's an almost invisible trade with huge consequences. But it's not an efficient way to make more protein. We need to re-think these links and ask whether it's really worth the damage to the ocean & communities.

@vik @strypey I remember asking for Diaspora profile import feature after we all exported our JD profiles. They said that it will be soon, later I was told not to repeatedly ask. I told that I will ask next year which I did and I was told that it was pointless and I should wait till next release which has no fixed timeline/date.

Yes, everything is , everything is . Trying to avoid politics does not make you safe.

Being aware, well-informed, and consistently active are our only hope for our individual and collective safety.

Choosing to disengage is cowardly surrender, and does exactly what the oppressors want, making you another one of their tools.

It's ok to rest and recharge, it's not ok to put the full burden on others; that's complicity.

I’m just remembering the time FB killed a bunch of small media companies by pretending that its video engagement was through the roof.

And the time they non-consensually experimented with only showing awful things to certain users to see if it would isolate and depress them (it did).

And the time they hosted the livestream of a mass shooting hate crime.

And the time they enabled a genocide.

Or Cambridge Analytica. JFC remembering facts and events is not hard.

@dznz Thanks for reminding us about the emotional experiments which Facebook had the audacity to even publish a paper on!

Whenever someone tells you that the climate crisis is a personal responsibility issue, show them this:

https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2017/jul/10/100-fossil-fuel-companies-investors-responsible-71-global-emissions-cdp-study-climate-change

The climate crisis is a billionaires crisis, a trillion-dollar corporations crisis, a capitalism crisis, a systemic inequality crisis.

pavi,

@aral Sadly people have woken up and mobilised themselves and then came the parties ( Ex: German greens ) which hardly bother about real issues affecting the environment.

@jon OT I was annoyed by the forced reservations we need to TGV while we don't need one on DB ICE.

Another issue from the german side, we are forced to have credit card to book the tickets in SCNF. Why dont they be friendly to neighbouring country payment methods and allow something like sofort or paydirekt?

They do share border and have lot of trains which can be combined with german ones for longer travel across the region. Some are bookable by dbwebsite as well.
