What are the free software and/or opensource events in your country /region that you would recommend. I want to give a few more talks about #heavymetal#community#Foss and #Thunderbird this year.
Way back in 2019 I created a Hotmail account for testing purposes. After a few tests I never went back.
Such a requirement surfaced again. I rummaged around my logins file and re-discovered this Hotmail account, from nearly five years ago.
I was flabbergasted to find I was still able to login. It was like a time capsule inside, everything was still there, untouched, and maybe a little dusty. 😃 It was like going back in time.
We generally think that over-fishing is about fish that humans eat. But around a third of all wild-caught fish are turned into fishmeal, because fishmeal is around 65% protein and therefore in demand for for feeding farmed fish and pigs. It's an almost invisible trade with huge consequences. But it's not an efficient way to make more protein. We need to re-think these links and ask whether it's really worth the damage to the ocean & communities.#ocean#fish#fishmeal
"The team at BBC Research & Development are researching social technologies and exploring possibilities for the #BBC. One part of our work is to establish a BBC presence in the Fediverse... This is an experiment - we will run it for 6 months, and then look at how much value it has provided"
Did you know that the FSF has a PeerTube account? #PeerTube is a decentralized, federated video platform powered by ActivityPub and WebTorrent, and you'll find us on the Framatube instance: https://u.fsf.org/36m
@fsf No We didn't know that. It would be great if your account or other related account can share all the videos here one by one with the appropriate tags for #softwarefreedom#fsf I am very happy to see you using the @Framasoft 's #peertube instance.
"You cannot complain about Facebook collecting your life’s history, while at the same time complaining that diaspora* cannot find your former classmates. You cannot complain about WhatsApp collecting your address book, while at the same time stating you do not use eMail because exchanging addresses is too cumbersome. You either get a system that knows who you are or a system that does not."
@vik@strypey I remember asking for Diaspora profile import feature after we all exported our JD profiles. They said that it will be soon, later I was told not to repeatedly ask. I told that I will ask next year which I did and I was told that it was pointless and I should wait till next release which has no fixed timeline/date.
I guess #Diaspora as the first famous project of #Fediverse has reached end of life. 😒
I had a great day at @tuebix in Tübingen. It was nice to host a stand with some fellow KDE folks and
get so much positive feedback on Plasma, Plasma Mobile, the Steam Deck, Kalendar, Itinerary and many other KDE apps 😍
@aral Sadly people have woken up and mobilised themselves and then came the #green#capitalism parties ( Ex: German greens ) which hardly bother about real issues affecting the environment.

"Aditya Mukherjee, a historian at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Dehli, says that changes to the curriculum are being driven by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a mass-membership volunteer organization that has close ties to India’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party. The RSS feels that Hinduism is under threat from India’s other religions and cultures"
@jon OT I was annoyed by the forced reservations we need to TGV while we don't need one on DB ICE.
Another issue from the german side, we are forced to have credit card to book the tickets in SCNF. Why dont they be friendly to neighbouring country payment methods and allow something like sofort or paydirekt?
They do share border and have lot of trains which can be combined with german ones for longer travel across the region. Some are bookable by dbwebsite as well.
