Another large language model scraper blocked. This graph is from a site which runs a tool generating answers for people doing important research work. The AI scraper sent hundreds of thousands of lookup requests evading rate limits by using about a thousand IPs and pinned multiple webservers at 100% CPU (graph from one attached). This is a massive waste of electricity to train a hallucination machine.

To the „but Linux is complicated“ and the (IMHO weird) new „being able to use Linux is a sign of privilege“ crowd: We just had in our office with 20+ 10-12yr old girls that loved to explore the 10 XO (OLPC - One Laptop Per Child) from 2007(!) running Fedora and the Sugar UI we had them work with. No explanations needed. They had a blast.

With more people considering after the latest news, here is my advice:

  • Before looking at Linux at all, determine what proprietary software you're using in your workflows (MS Office and Adobe stuff being big ones) and try FOSS alternatives on Windows. (LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, Krita, GIMP, Inkscape, kdenlive, etc.) This will very much ease any future transition away from Windows. (1/7)

So my 12 year old kid loves to death: machines, tracks, landscapes, everything. Unfortunately, this is a hobby dominated by grumpy old men, some of whom don't react too cool towards a rainbow family. Are there any familys out there with ? , Germany, wherever? I am thinking exchange of photos or small films, maybe sending stuff to and fro, meetings in Germany at some point. German, English works. Neurodivergent kids/parents welcome.
