tallship,

Going back to Konversation for GUI stuffs. DCC file send/receive is kinda important to me. For everything else, including a lot of Matrix usage, WeeChat is still the Kewlist :p

https://bugs.quassel-irc.org/projects/quassel-irc/wiki/Migrating_from_Monolithic_to_Client+Core - just ain't gonna cut it right now.

I still love HexChat.

Honorable mention goes to Halloy, which I think looks really good, supports tiling, and says it supports DCC Send - I don't mind manipulating config files by hand, and I might check it out with a FlatPak, but if I'm sufficiently impressed it looks like I'll have to build the .deb and SlackBuild myself, ... Well? Somebody's got to! Right?

You don't have to be a programmer to contribute to open source. All you need to do is be able to file a good bug report.

  1. What you did, step by step. This might include information about your computer and software configuration.
  2. What you expected to happen.
  3. What actually happened.

As both a fan, and a fan, I was inspired by the print linked below to create my own sign to show my support for the Crew on my desk at my office at work.

https://www.printables.com/model/155492-cleveland-guardians-logo

So, I fired up to make the SVG, and then to create the 3d model that I then 3D printed. I printed the yellow part separate and glued it in.

So glad to have such great tools to make ideas reality. Can’t forget and .

tallship,

Thanks Evan, there's a bit to digest there, some of which I agree with, and some of which I don't, between what both you and the Other Evan had to offer.

It's good to get this stuff right out in the open, especially as the Fediverse is currently undergoing yet another paradigmatic shifts, perhaps an evolutionary step, but certainly, a complete game changer from much of the perspective offered in the Evan <==> Evan Essays ;)

I hope that helps! Enjoy!

hankg,

The comments on a video about solutions to solving political divide in FOSS includes scolding him about acknowledging that LGBT people do actually exists is being political really highlights where the problem lies and it isn’t with the openly LGBT members and their supporters. Nor is the solution buying into the “apolitical” solution of erasing the open existence of minorities either. Fuck that noise.

akroatis008,

@hankg I don't think I have the context. What is this about?

hankg,

@akroatis008 A YouTube video I started watching this morning. The impetus for that was apparently some strife in a FOSS project around the usual crap. I made the mistake of reading the comments even though I know better than to do that.

@Ailunarenth Please read my post again. I don't think you understood what I meant, but TL;DR:

  1. we don't have money
  2. we don't have people
  3. I know and understand what you're saying
  4. I literally said Rawhide is unstable
  5. Tumbleweed is updated once Factory's bleeding edge software has been integrated, stabilized and tested.
jaiden,
@jaiden@ordinary.cafe avatar

@madomado @Ailunarenth I think there’s a serious misunderstanding of what rawhide is and who it’s for. Rawhide is not stable for day to day use and is only similar to openSUSE in the fact that it’s rolling release. Fedora upstream doesn’t care if they break rawhide because it’s not the point of rawhide to be a stable system, it’s for Fedora maintainers and devs, if it breaks they can recover or it’s in a VM so it doesn’t matter.

Additionally, if you’re proposing holding packages back like Manjaro does, that costs lots and lots of dev time, and has proven time and time again to cause more issues than it’s worth.

You’re asking for us to distinguish ourselves with a unique release model, but this model you’ve proposed would require us to give up the extreme stability that is foundational to our distribution and spend dev time maintaining rolling packages instead of developing features (that actually serve our mission)

Switching to Rawhide would be a move purely for the cool factor, and would not match our values at all.

Ultramarine could just not be for you, and that’s fine, there’s tons of fish in the sea :3

Anybody knows a tool that

B: in my system tray

C: runs on Mac

BONUS: is

I’m so close to writing some quick and dirty thing myself…

LovesTha,
@LovesTha@floss.social avatar

@vsaw I suspect that some of that plumbing may be part of HomeAssistant in a way that could be useful to you. But while that suggestion is nicely FOSS, it isn't really a software solution (HA really wants HW to run on, not just a VM//docker)

vsaw,
@vsaw@mastodon.social avatar

@LovesTha At the moment I’m thinking more of „widget“ not “VM”! Something that provides me with actionable information at a glance. And for a v1 I’d be happy just to pull “grid level” data without taking any roof/balcony PV into account. That would be next step for me
