I was at the Outer Banks last month, and while I was there I got to test out this really cool GoPro kite mount prototype I designed. It worked really well, but I am just now getting around to uploading the video for it. I'll end up doing an actual post of this project in its entirety soon, but for now, here's the video.
Today in Labor History September 2, 1991: 25 workers were killed by a fire at the nonunion Imperial Foods poultry processing plant in Hamlet, North Carolina. Bosses had locked the doors in violation of the law, leaving the workers no escape.
Judd Legum reports today on the attempt of the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission, packed with judges appointed by Republican chief justice Newby, to silence Supreme Court justice Anita Earls, the only Black woman on the court.
Her alleged misconduct? She has criticized the state Supreme Court for its handling of issues of racial and gender discrimination. So the court wants to make her shut up.
And as Heather Cox Richardson writes, in North Carolina's daughter state of Tennessee, at a special legislative session, Republicans blocked the public from holding signs and kicked the public out of a hearing. They also passed rules that can prohibit Democrats from speaking.
Also: [Republican] House speaker Cameron Sexton silenced young Black Democratic representative Justin Jones for a day and today suggested the Republicans might make the rule silencing minority members permanent."
There's a pattern here, and it's not hard to see. Republicans want to shut up Black people and those who stand with them as they address issues of discrimination or — Florida — expect our schools to teach the truth about the past.

@TonyStark A lot of Americans think requiring voter ID somehow infringes on our rights, due to fear that political parties could somehow access that information to target voters.
That’s what voter registration, driver’s licenses, vehicle license plates, and cell phones do already, so it’s a poor excuse.
As a judge of election, I think it is a good idea to require voter ID. It would certainly help to stop some accusations of election fraud.
We don’t have to scan or capture the ID at a polling station. Just visually verify who is voting.
I don’t have a problem with putting your name on your ballot either. You’re already registered to vote.
We can’t even drive our cars in this country, without a license, registration, and insurance.
Voting should be bullet proof. Prove who you are, that you are legally registered to vote, then get a receipt for your vote after you have voted.
