Rainfall v1.1 is released!

The only new feature is a big one: Sign in with Mastodon!

I have heard the overwhelming feedback that "Sign in with Google" was a big barrier to entry for folks. I hope the new login method allows more people to give it a try.

Rainfall is a Bandcamp exodus tool that lets you upload your music and create a static site using the lovely Faircamp (https://simonrepp.com/faircamp/). You can download this site as a ZIP and host it anywhere on the web.

You can read some of the rationale behind why I built this here: https://travisbriggs.com/garden/bandcamp/

The github repo is here: https://github.com/audiodude/rainfall

Thanks for everyone for all of your support and feedback so far!

Funktioniert sehr gut.

Song of the Day - No 448

JOY DIVISION - SHE'S LOST CONTROL

Released in 1979 on Joy Division's groundbreaking debut album Unknown Pleasures, "She's Lost Control" is a stark and powerful exploration of epilepsy and loss of self-determination. Its driving rhythm, Ian Curtis's haunting vocals, and the song's evocative lyrics make it a post-punk masterpiece.

Sonic Youth release their sixth studio album, “Goo”

Up to this point, I really only liked Daydream Nation. Their music was more…musical. Now on a major label, Goo takes Sonic Youth’s songwriting skills to the next level, and offers an even more accessible sound.

First thing I noticed was the Raymond Pettibon album cover artwork. It was a classic signifier of cool. Also noticeable was how each track segued nicely into the next. The sound production was a step up, and the videos from the album are great pieces in their own right.

I don’t recall a ton of commercial radio airplay, but this album was in high rotation at college radio stations everywhere, for several years. There are so many great songs to choose from, it had a pretty long initial run. It’s a classic.

I was listening to my own music last night, which is not unusual, I listen to my own music quite a bit. I like it. But as I listened to it last night, I began to view it for the first time as a body of work. I’m not sure what it was before that moment, but as I played through the almost-hour long collection of my original songs, I was struck with the feeling that this is… a thing, a representation of something, I’m not sure what. I’m usually good with words, but I’m finding it difficult to describe the shift I felt. I know I must continue to add to this body of work, and that the work must stay true to itself. Music for the sake of music, and tunes that I personally enjoy listening to over and over again. I’m not sure if it was because I’d just binged on Ween, or maybe had too much sugar, but it was like an epiphany, and The Dgar Project has taken a new seat in my own consciousness. I am a songwriter, and this year, I’m writing songs.

Here’s the link if you’d like to open up the for yourself and see what’s inside.
