Kern Co still produces~3/4 of the CAs oil & gas, but CA’s push to decarbonize its energy grid is putting these rigs +ppl who operate them out of work. The battery-storage tech plan is to retrofit depleted oil wells to store concentrated #solar energy in super-heated groundwater +use that heat to drive turbines when energy demand rises. If it works as planned... #Climatehttps://e360.yale.edu/features/kern-county-oil-solar-thermal-geothermal-energy-storage
Online discourse: "You have to convince me to vote for Joe #Biden"
Why? I don't like Joe Biden. The idea that anyone has to convince you to fall in love with Joe Biden is as absurd of a #political assertion as the #MAGA cult and #Trump, that #politics is about #passion
It's also the height of #privilege and #entitlement, that you don't have to care about your #trans compatriots, you don't have to care about the #climate, that you don't have to care about #women and their right to control their own body, etc. You're going to assert your single issue, to the exclusion of all other issues, and even go backwards on that one issue
The world's biggest renewables & storage project, in northern Australia, will have 12 GW of wind, 12 GW of solar, and 32 GWh of storage. It will supply both Singapore & Australia. The project will likely be rolled out in two stages – with the first sized at 12 GW of wind & solar and 16 GWh of battery storage.
Environmental activists sue Norway over seabed mineral plan
OSLO, May 24 (Reuters) - Environmental campaigners have filed a lawsuit at an Oslo court challenging Norway's plan for seabed mineral exploration, citing insufficient impact assessment of the mining, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and its lawyer said on Friday
#Climate heat killing animals, falling dead out of trees.
30 billion 🇨🇦trees burned to the roots in half a year.
Brazil has both evacuations in flooding and a third of the rainforest threatened by drought.
CO2 levels and resultant heat are as PREDICTED
BUT the CONSEQUENCES of CO2 levels are DEVASTATING and rising.
People feel warned that "coast lines would change" not 3 CENTURIES worth of lost trees, smoke choking out cities at 1000 miles.
LA Times: Column: How ‘Sesame Street’ can prepare kids for climate disasters
...Sesame Workshop — the New York nonprofit that’s been producing the show for 55 years — said it would partner with the global charity Save the Children to “foster young children’s climate resilience.” Basically, the organizations intend to work together to tell stories — starring Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover and company — that will help kids and their families prepare for the increasingly extreme storms, floods, droughts and other weather extremes already being worsened by coal, oil and gas pollution...."
"If the plan is to convert everything worth converting into goodbye kiss revenues for a sunsetting industry, eventually a petrostate will need greater control of its populace & its democracy. The successful implementation of Bills 20 & 18 are vehicles to that end."

Investors file record number of #ClimateResolutions for North American companies
"A record 263 climate-related shareholder resolutions have been filed so far this year for annual meetings of North American companies, a new tally showed on Tuesday, with proponents tailoring their wording to gain support."
" #Climate activists climbed up a building near #TotalEnergies' Paris headquarters on Friday to protest the oil major's climate strategy while others stormed the offices of Total investor #Amundi, denouncing its holding in the group.
The actions came ahead of annual general meetings being held at both companies on Friday, as climate groups condemn ongoing investment in oil and gas production."
We really need to stop buying into the argument that #ClimateActivists are "radical" or "destructive". The opposite is true: the nature of the protests have been peaceful and, on the whole, pretty tame.
The idea that, say, sitting on a road is "radical", "extreme" and "criminal" came from a bunch of #FossilFuel aligned think tanks, parroted by the media.
Reject them.
The framing needs to be: Fossil fuel companies are radical, extreme, criminal.
"Five members of #LetzteGeneration have been charged with “forming a criminal organisation”, ... under section 129 of the German criminal code. It is believed to be the first time the law has been applied to a non-violent protest group.
“This charge is meant for mafia and organised crime. This charge criminalises every act of support towards the group Letzte Generation. This creates an immense chilling effect on all #climate protests in #Germany.”
