So....I feel like I'm pretty weird when it comes to certain things I really enjoy.
Music for example. I LOVE music. All kinds. Rock, Pop, HipHop, Classic and all of the subgenres that those genres created....with the exception of Country.
I just CANNOT Country. There's just something about the "twang" sound of it that just makes me cringe, if that makes any sense.
Does anyone else have something like this where they LOVE almost everything about a particular topic or hobby, except ONE particular subset of it?
I should follow more hashtags to find similar accounts. #Hashtags are important here. Searching to find a post is near impossible if you don't use them. Lots of space here.. #interests#Introduction#PinnedPosts
But, left unmoderated, social media tends towards a cesspool of bigotry. We have seen small cohorts of people with terrible ideas gain traction and spread their influence, with the platforms unable or unwilling to stem the tide of hatred.
I love following people on whatever #platform it is, and seeing their wonderful pieces. It saddens me that some people see social media as purely a way to get money into their pockets, where every post they put up in selling something and their is little actual #engagement with their audience.
So, if you’ve seen this, please buck the trend and engage in the social media platforms of your choice, #talk to people, create a social space within your own posts and encourage others to follow your lead.
Just a note to my #Followers and potential future followers:
If you #Follow me and want to be followed back, please have similar #Interests tagged in your bio. If I check you out and we have nothing in common on the surface, I have no reason to follow back.
Though, it's totally okay to just follow me for the sake of following my crazy ass! I do appreciate the support.
@johnnyprofane1 I remember the pressure for friends. As I got older I pulled away into my own #interests. It was #lonely but it was better. Sadly it wasn’t until college when I cultivated #friendships. It was better. I was more me.
By then I’d cast myself the #introvert. I came out as gay. I thought I had it figured out. Well not quite. But I was getting warmer!
Friendships are still challenging. The hardest part is remembering to keep in touch with some.
Having spent a lot of time on Mastodon... There are tons of people there talking about federated and self-hosted services, software freedom, censorship, encryption, tech regulation... A very narrow range of topics directly surrounding the fediverse get a lot of attention....
@mariyadelano@actuallyautistic I haven't written on it but I have casually observed that the #fediverse is an acceptable and safe place to discuss our #special#interests at length and detail and have people genuinely intrigued by what we have to offer. Some of us (like myself) are experts in the minute details of the way networks and communications operate.
It's been a place of education and teaching for me: A real respite from the skullduggery and exhaustion that being #neurodivergent in a #neurotypical work can really and truly be.
Can we please remember to talk about things on the fediverse besides the fediverse itself?
