I'm somcak, a #librarian currently in #Ohio. I have 2 mini #dachshunds and 2 #cats. I enjoy all sorts of music, yes, even death metal on occasion!
I've been on Mastodon since October 2022, and this is my 5th server.
I use content warnings for all sorts of stuff, just trying to be considerate! I always make sure there's #AltText and #CamelCase for my own posts as well as those I boost. #Accessibility matters.
I enjoy learning about #history and #archeology, particularly the #neolithic. I'm also interested in #UrbanPlanning and how we can make communities greener. I have an #ebike and care about #CompleteStreets.

New instance new intro!!

Dear #Fediverse app devs (including the #mastodon web interface itself): PLEASE stop autocorrecting my #CamelCase'd hashtags into all-lower-case.
That's just silly. You should be autocorrecting lower case to camel case instead! Grab the list of all hashtags with the same letters without regard to case, and if there's a plurality of them with the same capitalization (not counting all-lower-case), suggest that. Duh! ;)
If you want your fediverse posts to be seen by more people interested in their subjects, or you want to find and talk to more people interested in the subjects you post about, hashtags are your friend. You can add them after the body of your posts, or #hashtag words in the post itself.
Follow people. Follow follow follow. Your feed doesn't get busy until you are following about 200 people. When you see a post you like, follow whoever posted it. Do this for all posts - you can always unfollow later
Hashtags. put hashtag your posts and look for hashtags you are interested in, then repeat 1 - follow people who post on those hashtags. Also put hashtags in your profile. Remember to use #CamelCase & capitalise each word, helps people who use screenreaders
@ivory The new hashtag features in #Ivory would be much more useful if the app did not make all the #hashtags lowercase. That was common on the old bird place, but #CamelCase is more accessible to people using screen readers and the like. I'm not asking you to convert everything to camel case, but it would be helpful if the app paid attention to the actual hashtags I'm using.
Capitalization affects how people read hashtags or how people hear them on screen readers. Use #camelCase or #PascalCase in hashtags instead of lowercase. You could have #DoctorWhoRewatch ("Doctor Who Rewatch") or #doctorwhorewatch ("doctor whore watch.")
If you have a hashtag with multiple words, write the hashtag in #PascalCase or #camelCase to help users of screen readers. That helps the screen reader to read out the words out individually, rather than trying to read them in one long word.
Here we got a class, in our regular #odata controller functions it produces #camelCase like we tell it to in our settings. However, in our non-base controller function it produces #PascalCase ... because, duck us?
Only on the expanded parts which are handled a little bit differently for efficiency, hense the need for the non-base controller function with odata.
Can someone using a #ScreenReader give a hint about how to mention abbreviations in hastags in the best way?
I try to apply #CamelCase whenever it's applicable, but am confused if it's also the method of choice in that case, or if it's better to capitalise the abbreviation and attach (in case of a compound tag) another word in lowercase letters.
Beautiful meditative walk this afternoon to get groceries.
Happy Friday!
Please use #AltText on your photos so I can boost them! #CamelCase on your hashtags so they can be read by screen readers (Capitalize the first letter of each word in your hashtag) #AccessibilityMatters
I think we all agree that it's good to use #camelCase in tags, since it makes them accessible to users with various perceptual impairments. But should the first letter be upper or lower case? I'd argue for lower case, because single word tags are usually all lower case, and starting multi-word tags in lower case looks more consistent. Do you agree? Are there any technical or aesthetic reasons to favor one or the other? Am I overthinking this? 🙃
For consideration by @david &/or @mods [sorry, i never know who is the right addressee for my toots like this].
Wrt attached pic, is there some way to purge the #TechLGBT server/s of #hashtags improperly written in all #lowercase, & replace with the proper #CamelCase ones? I really try to do the right thing in my toots, but it's so tedious when the auto-suggest routinely offers me "bad" [lowercase] rather than "good" [CamelCase] tag suggestions. This error / bad practice is prevalent for IMO most#hashtags i use, not merely this one example now.
Are you new to Mastodon and looking for your tribe, clan, or clade? Let me suggest #hashtags! They are a slightly different kind of currency on Mastodon.
You can search on hashtags!
You can follow hashtags!! Whoa!
And you can include the liberally in your posts and bio so other people can find you!!!
Tip: if your hashtag is made up of multiple words, capitalize the first letter of each word (#CamelCase) so that screen readers can read them. Please and thank you.
