Good news, everyone!

I have terrible news.

The multi test for COVID, flu A/B and RSV was briefly available from Life Pharmacy, but out of stock now.

Maybe if enough of us email Life Pharmacy beseechingly they'll restock soon.

In other news, the govt still plans to phase out free RATs by end of June.

This is a spectacularly bad idea, so please write to your MP and/or the MoH to ask they continue. Aotearoa Action has an open letter here: https://covidaction.nz/en/keepratsfree

Also, find your nearest location that dispenses free RATs and stock up over the next few weeks according to the size of your household.

My experiments going out with my CO2 monitor are discouraging. Tonight, with COVID in wastewater at its lowest in 11 months in my city, we went out to eat. We hoped for outdoor dining, but it rained, so we sat inside. CO2 readings:

4:30 pm: 50% crowd in a brewpub: 1548
5:45 pm: 75% crowd in a Mexican restaurant: 1341
7:45 pm: Long line at ice cream shop: 1896

I thought businesses upgraded air filtration & ventilation, but these readings encourage me to stay home. taught us nothing.

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@augieray there is no incentive - either tax provisions, encouragement by public health, grants, or even public pressure

the entire clean air movement is being actively suppressed, you can't bring C02 monitors into schools in British Columbia, as a staff member or student - school boards, local, provincial and national politicians run away at the very suggestion

and it's literally the cheapest and simplest thing they could do

OODA Loop reminder: you need to constantly re-evaluate the situation and READJUST your assessment of a situation to fit; if you make a decision at one point in time, that is not a "philosophy" but a decision point at that point in time.

meltedcheese,
@meltedcheese@c.im avatar

@ai6yr I’m confused. What has changed with that fundamentally reduces the risk of infection to you, or by you to others? Or is it that the consequences of infection, regardless of risk, are now acceptable? Why, objectively, would your choice change from one week to the next?

Everybody dies.

Not everybody becomes chronically ill from a disabling pathogen.

Live till you die is the goal, not suffer till you die.

You may not care if kills you, but will you care if you are so ill from , making food to survive takes every ounce of your energy for that day? Will you care then?

Because that's what way too many people are living right now.

Do you have somebody lined up who will take care of you indefinitely?

I honestly don't think I've seen more than one maybe 2 cars drive through a solid red light before

Now it's all the fucking time.

I had to go to urgent care earlier today (nothing serious, needed antibiotics for infection).

I'm please to report that the nurse, the doctor, and all the patients I saw (about 8-9?) were wearing masks of some kind. I was pleasantly surprised! 😷😁

I've said it before but I'll say it again.
It's not that everyone I know who had has developed terrible new medical issues.
It's that everyone I know who has developed terrible new medical issues recently had Covid.
And in every case I'm thinking of, it's become a health crisis within about three months of their most Covid bout. (Usually not a bad bout, either.)

So curious why

A new gold standard review of 100 studies finds:

  • masks are effective in reducing transmission of respiratory diseases

  • N95 respirators are significantly more effective than medical or cloth masks

  • mask mandates are effective in reducing community transmission
