I had a nice day at home with the dogs, and also I was able to listen to a lot of talks throughout the day for my boot-edition #AcademicRunPlaylist! (1/11)
First was an incredible talk by Irene Chen on bringing #equity to the #MachineLearning pipeline at the Hariri Institute for Computing. This talk has it all - how should people think about equity and fairness in machine learning, methods examining if #bias will be eliminated simply by collecting more data, and more. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDoxJykUrw8&t=29s (2/11) #AIEthics#AI
The fight for #TransRights isn't just about trans individuals; it's about all of us. We cannot remain silent while our fellow human beings suffer at the hands of hate, fear, & oppression
The writing is on the wall, & if we don't act now to protect trans individuals, we all suffer the consequences
We cannot turn a blind eye to the very real threats to our fellow human beings#equity, #dignity, & #humanity
My heart goes out to the #drupal community as many are left with the difficult choice to either stand with #pantheon#devs in service of #equity and #justice—and migrations are painfully expensive—or continue to support an org that platforms #hatespeech.
Unfortunately, we know what their leadership will choose, as just about nobody has organizationally abandoned Twitter.
Truth has moved from being a matter of reason to a matter of feeling. Rather than something discovered through logical discourse in community, truth is now—to many people—discovered primarily through felt experience as individuals. What matters most is whether I feel something to be true for me, and this only has implications for others insofar as they must respect the viability of “my truth” and not threaten it with “their truth.”
I am no "leftist" or "rightist", no christian or atheist,
But I dont hate people just because I dont agree with their views or perceptions.
Infact I love to read the different views and learn from dissenting opinions.
But on most platforms now with echo chambers shutting one group or the other out,
Overtime you feel siloed and it gets boring listening to 1 view all the time or reading from just 1 group of people all the time.
Thank you James for your expert guidance and UMATV Urban Media Arts (formerly Malden Access TV) for helping the SPARTA Seniors Show Ep7️⃣ become a reality!
And it was great to see amazing friends, who are doing much good for our community💫
The predecessor to “woke” as a pejorative term was “politically correct,” and there were similar terms before that, going back as least as far as “abolitionist”. They’re all some form of “do-gooder,” which speaks volumes.
"Implementing the #NelsonMemo via an #APC model is antithetical to the equity goals so clearly articulated in the guidance memo and the values of our institutions."
Another excerpt: "As representatives of some of the most well-resourced #libraries in the country, we are committed to using our resources to promote public access to all research, not just the research our scholars produce. If public access to research outputs is achieved via a pay-to-publish model, we will have squandered an opportunity to promote #equity in scholarly communication."
