I woke up this morning to the smell and haze of smoke coming from the southwestern end of the state, hundred of miles away. I can’t remember ever seeing anything like this. 17 parishes across the state of have declared a state of emergency due to - meaning there are active fires in a quarter of the state’s parishes.

A few years ago my buddy Andy Crawford invited me down to Louisiana to explore the swamps with him. It was great having a guided tour, and photographing places I'd never see without him showing me. He and his husband are packing up and leaving New Orleans for New York, with their children, because they do not want to live in a place that targets LGBTQ people and their families.
