A lot of people are seemingly becoming more and more aware of social media censorship. As accounts across social media platforms are being permanently suspended for speaking up against the violence that Palestinians are facing, posts being taken down and accounts being shadow banned, a lot of people are seeing this reality that weren’t before. I feel like it’s a good time to remind folks about the fediverse.

When replying to a thread or toot which itself has a number of Hashtags, is it preferable to echo those selfsame tags in the reply, or is that association inferred by way of the connection to the original post?

For those unaware, not only are #posts from people #NewHere who add #Hashtags like this in the bod of posts, #annoying for everyone... they make it REALLY HARD for people with screen readers (since most reading technologies will read the hashtags out loud).
Put your hashtags at the end of the post, and use CamelCase to make life easier for everybody.
This might be something for a future Mastodon update, actually. The way Tumblr creates a space for hashtags at the bottom of posts could be a handy feature to adopt here, for instance.
I hate Twitter but, to be honest, Mastodon feels a lot lonelier. I like learning, books, mental models, pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, tools, knots, DIY, EDC, productivity advice, coffee, beer, software development, Tolkien, rucking, soccer, chilly weather, etc. Where are my people at??

You will get more traffic if you follow accounts that you enjoy and if you use hashtags.
Hashtags are powerful here. Because there's no algorithm here shoving trolls and ads in your feed, the best way to get your toots noticed by others is to use hashtags.
You can even follow hashtags.
And you can edit posts! You might want to edit your toot to include hashtags like:

I found myself starting to type, “I’m trying to be patient, but you’re making it very difficult” and then I realised the convo was getting Twitter-level argumentative so I blocked and walked away. That person may think it was an “unfair” blocking, but I don’t really know them and I’m sure they can live without me. Maybe there is hope for me after all.

Reminder to everyone getting started; almost all social media experiences grow faster when you use the 3/4s "rule" (More like concept, really) that if you spend 3/4s of your social media time engaging (boosting, liking, commenting) and 1/4s time posting new stuff/advertising things go much better!
