Folks. This might be #NorthCarolina's next governor. No joke.

At Moms for Liberty's Philadelphia event, North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) says dictators like Hitler, Stalin and Mao are being taken out of context and promotes reading their writings.
"...It is time for us to get back and start reading some of those quotes."
Police at the University of #NorthCarolina at Chapel Hill are responding to an “armed and dangerous person on or near campus,” according to an alert from the university on Monday.
Via Dave Wasserman, who confirms my lack of confidence in winning the House back:
New: NC Republicans just passed a new gerrymander that could flip the state from 7D-7R to as lopsided as 11R-3D. It dooms Reps. Kathy Manning (D) in #NC06, Wiley Nickel (D) in #NC13 and Jeff Jackson (D) in #NC14 and puts Rep. Don Davis (D) in a Toss Up #NC01. #NorthCarolina
Senate Bill 90 dropped a whole bunch of changes last night. Most of it incredibly terrible for lgbtq children. Also portions of it read pretty bad for any child in an abusive house. I havent seen a single article summarizing the sheer number of terrible things in the bill yet.
Some of it is repetition from other states some of it is all new.
The clause that parents get auto-notified and get to block a student from joining any school club. Assuming LGBTQ student alliances are the targets there.
Sounds also like a new council will be setup to oversee all educational standards in the state, and theyve set it up that mostly current GOP controlled positions in the state will nominate most of it's members.
I'm finishing preparing the slides for my talk "All about Django project com" which I will present next Tuesday 17 October at DjangoCon US 2023 in Durham, North Carolina 🇺🇲

What's the weather in your part of the world looking like today?
Here in Winston Salem, NC, it's going to be a decently hot day as you can see. We'll get up to about 82F, which for me is about 40 degrees way too hot!
The wife and I spent 10 minutes picking green beans this morning. This is one of two filled bags that we got in that short amount of time.
We have tons more that still need to be picked, and even more that aren't quite ready yet.
It's nice having a little garden in the back yard!
9 days in the OBX was just the thing. Nothing but kiting, and chilling at the beach, and I loved it. Back to Vermont tomorrow though! Lots more to do before we go to WordCamp US this month!
I've often thought about starting up a Mastodon instance for the Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, NC area.
Not sure what exactly I'd name it/call it
Since I co-admin this instance, I would want it to to be hosted similarly as this one with MastoHost but would love to find someone reliable that could moderate and help run it if necessary.
Just curious if there would be much interest in an instance like that.
Police in #Asheville used their new drone unit to surveil and harass hundreds of attendees at the grand re-opening of the @firestorm bookstore.
"It’s only been three months since the Asheville Police Department announced the launch of a new Drone Unit. Speaking with the Mountain Xpress, an APD Captain assured the community that the technology would not be used for “surveillance on the unknowing public.” But that’s exactly what is happening..."
"A new lawsuit accuses #NorthCarolina House Speaker Tim Moore, one of the state's most powerful lawmakers, of having a sexual relationship with a state government employee...Scott Lassiter claims that Jamie Lassiter confessed & "implored" him to allow her to cont. it so as not to jeopardize her job, which was created and is funded by the legislature. In her role she supports all of the state's 100 elected clerks of Superior Court"
