You can see that tasks have been slowly going down (fewer users using /?). Then I had this massive drop early May (not sure why, but likely a relay that stopped working).

I've now added a bunch of new relays and seeing the number of tasks going up massively (to the point Sidekiq is running 4-6hrs behind in my -- maybe I need to QA and remove some relays?)

Current list of relays

Way to miss the point, Wired.

Meta's metric is "engagement" and "time spent". I don't think anyone disputes that these algorithms increase these.

The argument isn't even necessarily that algorithmic timelines are fundamentally bad, but that what they do, for the sake of profit, is unhealthy.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a view on here with a selection of what I missed since last time, of the stuff I follow.

If you are annoyed by people who boost too much (like me 😁 ), you need not mute them! Just go to their profile and choose behind the 3 dots "hide boosts from @ xy". This is also the easiest way to get only original posts by a followee.

When you think about do you imagine a timeline? What shape is it? how wide is it? Does it extend in a particular direction?

When I think of the previous decades I see a wide steep slope extending down to the right. The future is up to the left just behind me (unless I turn around and try to look at it) The past is an impossibly wide set of steep cellar stairs littered with knickknacks.

How to you see time?

I like the chronological on . But I really wish there was a way to filter it for unread posts.

The longer time in the day goes on, the harder it is to go back and "catch up" on older message, especially if time is tight.

Filtering out read messages would facilitate "little and often" browsing of timeline, more in keeping with use of social media (e.g. Waiitng for something, in lift, etc...)

I'm curious how son more accounts will be made available, and when we really can interact. Exciting times indeed.

Every single is overwhelming, even my followed timeline, even though I only follow like 20 people. It's so hard to keep up with the that fill up my whole while the and timelines are updated every second. The timeline is filled with idgaf about. Any ?

I forgot I followed the tag AND I forgot I blocked it... Probably doing some late night testing

Wouldn't it be great, if you could filter your in simply by language? Not with a list for accounts, because some people post in multiple languages, but just by language used.

Mastodon clients in the Apple ecosystem can sync timeline read position using iCloud.

That’s nice because you can always continue reading your timeline from where you left of, even if you switch from phone to computer etc.

Would it be technically possible to instead have a timeline read position as a variable connected to your account in the server that clients can read and write to? 🤔

That way it wouldn’t matter which client or OS you are using, you could still have a synced timeline experience.

Green line: About the time Twitter introduced the algorithmically sorted home timeline that users where up in arms against.

People today: Social media without algorithms just doesn't work! We have to let the ruling class control what information we receive, there's just no other choice. Deciding for ourselves, hah, so naïve!

mastodons list feature to hide a complete list of accounts you follow is awesome.
So I can follow all the news accounts but only "see" them when I feel like it, for less unintentional doom scrolling.

Timeline hygiene and mental health are important!

Note: It's a new feature, so it might not be available to everyone yet (but most probably soon).
