It’s 2024. Elon Musk Rules X. And the Political World Is Still Addicted.
"Two years after words like Mastodon, BlueSky, Post and Threads became rallying cries and users declared war on the blue check, those who made Twitter what it was in the days before Musk have returned to using X."
"Last year, Democratic candidates spent more than a million bucks on Twitter ads, The Washington Post reported."
One of the stupidest takes of #libertoloids (right-wing libertarians) is that you don't need laws or enforcement, that the only thing you need is a judge to resolve conflicts.
I never bothered to reply to them on #Twitter how idiotic this take was, for very two simple reasons:
the judge has no executive power, so whatever their ruling is, it's ineffective if there's no executive power to enforce it.
judges are corruptible.
Kind of regret not pointing 2. out, given the #SCOTUS sitch.
I enjoy watching #twitter struggle through a familiar pattern we all saw in the 90s on the internet: “Why Libertarian Moderation Doesn’t Work”.
It starts out with free speech but the right kind of free speech. The rest is fake or bots or trolls. Then we evolve into you are either friends with the moderator or you are again them.
Finally we end with the desperate plea of “we will allow pornography” except of course nobody is equipped to moderate that so within days someone will post something either horrifying or just against the law (revenge porn etc) and the entire operation collapses in on itself.
On the plus side the speed by which corporations will cancel their ad spend rather than run the risk that Coca-Cola posts are run next to fake celebrity pornography is going to really show us how fast Musk can speed run destroying a company. Fingers crossed it’s shut down by 2025 and I get to watch a documentary on its death.
Kind of poking around the interwebs these days trying to find out where I fit in modern-day #socialmedia
I went back to #twitter today... hah. Hahaha. Listen: I spent the last hour blocking or "I want to see less of this"ing the content that was on my main feed, and even though it claimed my feed would be 'made better', every time I refreshed I had more of the same content.
BREAKING - Proving his reputation as a great entrepreneur and innovator, #Elon#Musk today announced he will be bringing porn to #X and again rebranding the former #Twitter social media platform by changing the name from X to XXX #billionaires#ElonMusk
It's been suggested that with Elon Musk turning #Twitter into an X ... -rated pit of right wing disinformation and pornography, we're all actually living in a nearby timeline of the "Back to the Future Part II" forked timeline where Biff Tannen had turned 1985 Hill Valley into a pit of depravity.
#Infosec#Twitter is dead, why do people still insist on being on that platform? It's lost its relevance, and all the best people in Infosec have moved here to #Mastodon or another #Fediverse app.
I feel like most of those still on Twitter are more worried about appearances and keeping their follower numbers than keeping and growing a great community.
